deadlywarblerOutstanding!Such an informative and fun podcast. Great concise delivery of information, and entertaining at that. Goofy at times, but that’s part of the fun! Lived on this podcast for months and wish there was still episodes!

joaquin368864432Great!I love these case studies. Where can I buy more of these?

kadusslGreat information, horribly racistHey! I have listened to the 4 free podcasts that are available. I think the information is great, and I'm a big fan of the case review. However, the bad "reenactments" are horrifically racist. Specifically the poor Latino imitation and the borat-style middle-eastern imitation. You're a physician. Please do better.

rock-out92Old, dead, little contentShouldn't be ranked highly by iTunes.

Just an NPRacist?I was disappointed because the podcast is informative and a good quick review. Unfortunately the accents are a little much... especially since the educated doctor is always speaking perfect English while the non compliant, up to no good patients have various accents. It takes away from the learning and in my opinion is racist. I listened to the first four hoping I was mistaken. I wasn't.

A PremedProblematicIt's a shame this was the first medical podcast I happened upon. The patient portrayal in the episode I listened to was problematic.

Asclepius360Wish more podcasts were like thisI used to listen to these all the time back when they were free. Now you gotta pay for them so minus one star. Otherwise these are great. I am a field paramedic and these podcasts were able to cater to my incredibly limited attention spa.. I discovered them at a critical point in my career when I was really having a difficult time tying concepts together. Combined with expert guidance, these podcasts boosted my skills to exactly where I needed to be, and helped to save my career. For that I am grateful. I have used the knowledge gained from these podcasts to flow better with nurses and other healthcare providers. They gave me a better understanding of the totality of patient care. In one case I was able to pick up hyperkalemia that was missed by a transferring physician. She was in a junctional rhythm with giant T waves and the doctor wanted to implant a pacemaker. Her potassium was 7. Instead she got calcium, bicarb, insulin, d50, albuterol and Kayexalate, just like the podcast taught. This may not be the best podcast for you if you are easily offended by the exact same edgy toilet humor as you would see on any major television network, or if you think very highly of yourself like IM Resident Ryan Dunn, but they worked for me, and I have positively affected many lives with the knowledge gained from these audio podcasts. Thank you doctors for the service you have provided.

Rmd mdSave your moneyBesides the fact that this podcast is not very funny and beyond its slightly offensive accents and racial stereotyping this podcast is just not a very useful learning tool. Its reviews seemed to be more "ER focused" and accordingly the topics are covered in a overly simplistic manner. Some of the information they provide is actually of questionable accuracy and their is a derth of literature citations to support some of their assertions. I paid 20$ for a bunch of these lectures and as an IM resident looked forward to quick helpful topic reviews but I just found these podcasts of little utility. They may be more appropriate for a second year medical school student though I think even for them they are likely a bit shallow. I love finding new learning tools in medicine and I think podcasts are a great method but there are a lot better FREE podcasts that one can find such as puscast, merck manual, medscape, lancet and a surgical ICU rounds by Jeffrey Guy......to name a few.

mmutkGood jobI love this series of podcasts, humorous and informative. Everyone needs to lighten up a bit.
-
Mad AdderGreat PodcastI recently got and listened to all the episodes, and I've been very satisfied so far. Highly recommended to all in the medical field.
-
doctor sherryThank You Dr. Jacob!!!!!!!!!!!!These podcast are amazing. The information is presented in such a basic uncomplicated manner,it is actually enjoyable learning concepts that I never fully understood during my training. Thank You Dr. Jacob. When will more podcast be released? I really hope soon, Thanks again for your unique talent in teaching.
-
NumbfreeNumbfreeLighten up. Jacobs' delivery is refreshing compared to so many other Med sites. If you think he's offensive leave us alone and listen to one of the monotonous, dreary poscasts somewhere else. It's probably better suited to your delicate sensitivities.
-
viveroaAPPALLINGI cannot believe that an educated man in the medical field could produce a podcast rife with stereotypes in an attempt at humor!! There are ways to transmit knowledge without ridiculing other races, and I will definitely look elsewhere for similar podcasts in much better taste. AVOID.
-
EvensteveOffensive and racistI'd listened to the episode about placebo and thought this podcast was worth a second listen, and then yesterday I tried the one on speedballing. In the first five minutes there were two hokey accents and offensive stereotypes -- couldn't make it past the jive-talking boyfriend of the OD victim. No thanks.
-
damsorrowyikesabsolutely creeped out by how racist these podcasts are--seriously, the "mystical asian doctor?" that rolls his rs? and the patient in a recent podcast on speedballing has a boyfriend who speaks "jive" and calls her his "shorty?" is this real life? i wish i could listen but it's excruciating. the information is good, it's just unlistenable.

Nima__Great Podcast Series!!To those of you complaining about the accents, get over it. I personally find them amusing. They aren't being insensitive, just entertaining. And for the record, I think it helps distinguish patient vs. doctor in such an over-the-top obvious way so that you can focus on the more important things. Bravo.

Randy Clarke MDOffensiveAccents not amusing
-
Student docNYCGreat stuffRelax peeps the accents are not meant to mock only to keep it interesting. If you are offended grow up. Great info and easy to listen to.
-
Mister_PieGood idea in theoryI like the theoretical premise of this podcast but not the delivery. The accents are TERRIBLE and borderline on offensive.
-
ratrphExcellent: accurate and succinctI have been a clinical pharmacist for 35 years and am enjoying this refresher course. Thank you for making this outstanding series available.

Dr. Swinglow McAllenDr. Jacob hits Medicine's G-Spot!!!!!I'm in south Texas, a true melting pot. Way to sinically bring down the ethic defensiveness! Med-pod101 really hits medicine's G-Spot! P.S. Vote for Pedro

b00tie-chinyou guys ROCKthis totally helps me with school! no more episodes??? pay for them on your website? no more being free when suscribed???
-
MIA CrisYou're charging for this now!?!?!With so many podcasts available, it's amazing to me that you're charging for this now. You guys need to find another sponsor to advertise during the podcast because they are quite good, but considering the caliber of podcasts out there for free, you can't seriously charge for these.

gebanksLay off the ethnic voicesThere is good information here, but the host portrays the patients doing ethnic accents, making grammatical errors that I'm sure he finds hysterical. Many physicians in this country have accents similar to those he mocks, and are probably not amused. The host himself pronounces pharynx as if it were fair-nix. Almost as bad and George Bush and "nuculer." He also presents some out of date information, such as recommending IV phenytoin as first line for status epilepticus. This went out years ago, when phosphenytoin was introduced, as phenytoin can cause loss of tissue or even limb if it extravasates (purple glove syndrome). Give it at your medicolegal peril! He could do much better if he just did a straight medical presentation, without the attempted humor.

fredjensMore podcasts!!!I have been a nurse for 6 years and start med school next year. I think this podcast is amazing. Your session on antibiotics was amazing. Why no more podcasts??? I have been waiting for an update? Is there anyway you guys can do more drug spot lights and please dont listen to any of the reviews talking about racism. This is only for enterntainment and keeping people interested. GREAT JOB! Thanks.

pixelbot2000Medicine can be fun!I am neither a med student nor involved in the health profession, but I enjoy learning about medical topics and this is such a unique and entertaining way of presenting the material. Yes, Dr. Jacob's character voices might be considered un-PC, but that's why I like them. Maybe I'm immature, but it makes me giggle.
-
Sexy cannibalNice infoVery informative but the impressions are racist or something
-
VoodoslnkrRev1ewThis podcast makes for good learnies. Please lose the gay doc, he is more annoying than funny.
-
Fluffybunny!!AwesomeGreat review/overview of many high yield subjects. And the fake accents do grow on you.
-
janeroodyterribleThe information might be good, but I can't stand the fake accents. It is in poor taste at best and racist at worst. Very insulting to multiple ethnic groups, and to the listener. I do know who Borat is, and I don't think that style works here.
-
MarisU4Humorous clinical updatesMost of the medical and nursing podcasts put me to sleep. Not this one. The information is presented clearly and concisely. But the best part is the fictional patients explaining their symptoms. I'm an Advice RN and greatly appreciate this podcast and its format. It's also nice that the advertising is at a minimum, unlike many podcasts where it constantly interrupts the presentation.
-
gacibulaOutstanding podcast... but... I must agree with the others...Ok, so my friend calls me one day and says hey... listen to Medpod 101 it's great. I'm like yeah yeah w/e and i push it off. One day I get bored... and WOW what a gem this is. As a pharmacy school student, I'm not reviewing the information covered in these podcasts day to day... but all of the information is very important!!! It is well explained, simple, and is an outstanding review! HOWEVER! After listening to more and more podcasts... the people are right! Stop with the funny voices and impersonations. I'm not gonna say they are bad... but they aren't good. Maybe just stick to little boy/little girl impersonations. Or impersonations to differentiate from you! The podcast is great, and I really think you have a hell of a nack for teaching! Can't give it a full 5 stars though, because the podcast isn't perfect. Ditch the characters... YOU'RE A SMART DOCTOR, YOU DON'T NEED EM! I unlike other reviewers didn't find the characters worthy of taking this podcast any lower than a 4.

KewellsOne of my favoritesThis podcast is one of my favorites. They offer case based (fictional) presentations of commonly encountered disorders and reviews of basic clinical skills. My background is in emergency medicine and primary care, in addition to teaching paramedic students. I recommend this podcast to my students and listen regularly myself.

Steve FNP GradreviewGood learning material and fun to listen to.
-
N. LitwinGood presentation, great material. As someone who constantly studies medicine, I am pleased to find a podcast that is both entertaining and informative. The case presentations are spot on relative to what one can usually expect to encounter in a clinical setting (though there will be unavoidable variations). The break-up of case presentations and theoretical background information make for a good study-and-test-yourself dynamic where you can try to apply your knowledge to the situation. Great job, overall. Keep up the good work!

PSYMDNo recent podcastsHow come there hasn't been any new material that's been coming out lately?
-
caitcast23Excellent Information! This podcast is easy to follow, humorous, and a great way to learn medicine just for fun. I am an aspiring surgeon, and I have a feeling I will have the 'x-factor' when i (hopefully) start medical school next year because of this podcast. GO GURPREET!
-
DherndExcellent reviewMedpod101 offers a fun and comprehensive review of important and interesting subjects in Medicine.
-
Brow94Incredible PresentationNot to be outdone are the folks here at Medpod101. The whole cast and crew provide entertaining and informative insights into medical practice and important information that is both useful and sometimes even comedic in nature. Give it a shot, you'll be hooked right away!
-
Psychodarwinistgood information, terrible accentsI like the information. Also, I appreciate the desire to make the information more lighthearted but the fake accents are not funny. There is a subset of people who like to learn about medical information and a subset of people who like poorly done fake accents and Borat and in my opinion they don't overlap enough to make a podcast that combines the two. I'll start listening again when they stop the juvenile humor.
-
mcmibsVirtually impossible to listen toI have no idea why this man thinks he needs to use different voices or, for that matter, he has any ability to do so. I had to stop and turn it off because it was absolutely impossible for me to listen. Very distracting! Lose the silly voices and just use your own, for heaven's sake! We are medical professionals, not a first grade class.
-
hap ardenoffensively unfunnyThis podcast COULD be good. It is fairly competent in terms of reviewing material. The host, however, is so offensively unfunny that it completely destroys the listenability of this podcast. Remember when Borat impressions got old a week after that movie came out? Well, this guy is STILL DOING THEM. He also does fake chinese accents, gay lisps, and just about every other done-before stereotype you can think of. Don't get me wrong, I am not offended at how "politically incorrect" these characters are. I am angry at how unbelievably unfunny they are. Do yourself a favor and do not encourage this guy to think he's "the funny doctor." He's not. He should dress up like Patch Adams because this guy is a CLOWN.
-
SwartzenagerOdd VoicesSometimes they use really annoying voices for the patients. It would be nice just to hear non-broken English sometime. Poorly spoken English is frustrating episode after episode.

Napppy BoyListen, enjoy, learn (REVISED)Here is what I wrote a few weeks ago (when giving a 5 star rating): "Keep practicing on the patient presentations! They are enjoyable and worthwhile. If listeners don't like them, let them exercise their freedom of choice -- to tune out. The patient on the latest podcast -- spiderbite -- was great!!" Sadly, these podcasts just now took a turn for the worse when reviewing homeopathy (and other) frauds. Our doctor (not Dr. Jacob) said he might refer a patient to a homeopath (or other "trusted sourcers") if he thought no harm would be done. He utterly ignores the fact that homeopaths are frauds. Where is the harm? The homepath is going to take the patient's money and provide nothing but water in return! Why can't our doctor educate his patient, or refer his patient to a psychologist? He does the same thing with herbalists. He actually recommends his patients to such frauds and describes how various herbs suppossedly help patients. (And justifies this referral by the fact that an extremely small number of toys from China had excess levels of lead in them.) Where is his scientific integrity and honesty? Gone. Utterly gone! In response, I must revise my review and give Medpod101 a one-star rating.

InjenuLove itI am not a medical student of any kind but I still love this podcast.

RianeorlFantastic ResourceIf you are studying medicine, this is an excellent tool to supplement your studies. Highly recommended.
-
pedsnpFantastic podcast!I enjoy this podcast tremendously. I appreciate the case presentation style and love the injection of humor. The accents are awesome! Please keep up the good work.

Ace's deuceGood medical content; annoying sexual humorThe clear positive feature of these podcasts is the content is a good review of any medical topic discussed: common aspects of problems, diagnoses & treatments are succinctly reviewed. It is almost like an emergency room/primary care physician approach to a topic. The podcasts are good for students in the health care professions, interns, residents and practicing professionals that want to refresh learning the practical basics. The negative is the presenter's altered accented voice providing a humorous case presentation as a patient. It consumes a little more time than it should. Additionally, it is so often from a sexual perspective of girlfriend/spouse/homosexual mockery that this imbalance is rather annoying to this professional
