    Amazing Journalism
As a recent new listener of Crime Beat, I am listening to all shows to catch up. The host is top notch and focuses on the victim while providing a thorough explanation of the case. The relationship Nancy develops with victims and their families is clearly one of trust and mutual respect. This is a must listen! Thank all of you for excellent work you do to bring this podcast to your listeners.

    Love this show!
I just recently discovered this podcast and am so glad I found it. True Crime is a genre that I have been fascinated with for years, so I have listened to many podcasts on the subject. This one really stands out to me as one of the best for several reasons. The first is how Nancy really focuses on the victims in each case. It is obvious that she really cares about people and doesn’t see them as just another story. Secondly, the stories are well researched and written. Finally, cases are followed up on in subsequent episodes. In the Kelly Cook case my heart really broke for the woman who was the first choice as a babysitter. I was so happy and relieved when she was finally able to meet Kelly’s sister to have her guilty feelings assuaged. Thank you for bringing humanity to these tragic cases, Nancy! Keep up the good work!!

Love it! Slow talker! But ok!
Love the podcast but wow, Nancy is a SLOW talker. Hard to disregard once you realize just how careful she enunciates e-v-e-r-y word.

    Really love this podcast but…
This podcast is so well written and researched. I can tell Nancy Hixt really cares about the people who are affected by these crimes. The only reason I can’t give five stars is Nancy’s delivery style. She sounds like she’s talking to a three year old. Slow and almost patronizing. It can be quite irritating. I cannot be the only person who notices this. I still listen if the story is interesting, but I have to take breaks when I start focusing too much on her narration style and not on the content. Otherwise, great podcast!

    Amazing Podcast
I never get tired of listening to these! Nancy Hixt makes all the stories interesting and makes you feel like you were actually there. She does a great job of keeping the story respectful even being so detailed. My favorite.

Good podcast. Makes me happy I live in the USA
After listening to the most recent episode, I feel very sorry for Canadian citizens. You should never, EVER, be arrested and charged for defending yourself in your own home. This poor man was attacked by a stranger that had been removed from his property two prior times. After defending himself from a brutal attack, having surgery for his wounds and being hospitalized, he was arrested and jailed! This is appalling to me. I’m also disgusted by the lenient sentences given to violent offenders in Canada. Some of these people serve very little time and get out of jail, only to reoffend. Say what you will about the US, but we have much better laws on self defense and much harsher sentences for violent offenders.

    Well done
This podcast has become a favorite. Nancy Hixt is easy to listen to, holds my attention, and has a remarkable talent to deliver difficult subject matter and interview family and loved ones in a very respectful and informative way.

    The Real Deal
Nancy’s research and presentation is superb! Im not familiar with a lot of these cases, I’m not Canadian, so many of these cases I’ve never heard of, which makes them even more interesting. I appreciate Nancy’s empathy and her tact in leaving out a lot of horrific details.

    Journalism at its best
We are inundated with “opinion” masked as journalism but Nancy Hixt and Crime Beat is a throwback to great investigative journalism . Her focus on telling the victims story vs looking for sensationalizing the perps is also a fresh approach …. Very much worth a listen.

    Great Podcast
Great podcast but outraged by the Canadian justice system. Why do such bad criminals get life in prison WITH PAROLE??? They should be in there forever! I don’t get it!! What in the world is Day Parole?? That’s the frustrating part for me.

    Excellent!
    Thanks Nancy! Love the podcast!

    Highly recommend!
Ive been listening to a number of true crime podcasts over the years, and I think this one has got to be my favorite. Nancy does such an excellent job with relaying the information on a case and incorporating witness/victim/family interviews. She also sometimes gives her perspective on how she was involved in the case originally, which I think a lot of other podcasts cant.

    Just hit play already!!!
I have been searching for a new podcast to listen to….I was all caught up on all my favorites in the True Crime, but I have to admit I was getting bored and at a point I felt like I was listening to the same cases over and over. Yesterday I stumbled upon CrimeBeat and saw the high ratings & thought I would try one more before giving up….and I am so glad I did! With this particular podcast being in Canada I am able to listen to new stories and also I am learning a lot about Canada and how they handle True Crime cases. Nancy has a different spin and way of telling these stories that no other podcast has done and I am OBSESSED!! If you’re looking for something entertaining and will keep you on the edge of your seat and be able to actually see what is happening as if you’re watching a movie…..HIT PLAY!!

    SO Well Done
Nancy Hixt does such a great job telling these stories. She gets you to see the people through their loved ones’ eyes, which makes you love them, too. No wonder the family members keep in touch with her. She makes them feel seen. I love listening to the interrogations with Canadian detectives. They are so kind & thoughtful. They don’t yell at people, saying “You did it!”, like American cops seem to. They’re so respectful. Makes me love Canada even more. I love Nancy’s calm, clear voice. She brings the music from the era of the crime in to set the scene. I’ve told people they have to listen to this podcast, because it’s exceptional. She’s up there in the realm of David Ridgen in my book. They are both excellent storytellers.

    I love the multi-part episodes!
COME BACK NANCY! Don’t worry! Your great investigation is making the episode grow, it’s fascinating., I love it. I can’t wait. It’s good to have to wait sometimes. Nice to have time to mull things over and to have something to look forward to! You and your show are among the best! Don’t let the haters get you down. 😇

    Absorbing stories compassionately told
I love this podcast. Nancy Hixt presents each story in a very intimate way. I feel like I know the people involved in each episode by the way she covers the essence of the victim and their loved ones. I wish there were no crimes like these in the world. But the care and compassion that radiates from each episode is comforting.

    Outstanding Podcast
I really enjoy this podcast, Nancy is a great storyteller. She brings you into the story and nine times out of ten she has me crying. Being from the states it seems like all other podcasts tell the same stories over and over again. This is great because they are Canadian crimes that I have never heard of. Very informative and New. Great Job Nancy!

    Eh
This was good when cases were covered and not laced with Social Justice messages and non-cases, or boring cases with a wimpy narrative. Stopped listening and following.

    Next-Level Podcasting!
This podcast is so well done! It’s full of captivating interviews with those involved with the cases at the time; the victims, witnesses, jurors, cops, & reporter Nancy Hixt, herself. Being from the States, I hadn’t heard of most of the cases covered & it’s both fascinating & heartbreaking. Crime Beat really touches upon all the emotions involved in covering these cases, & does it with class & sincerity. It also asks questions about how the laws in Canada might be amended, usually with the safety & wellbeing of victims in mind. Truly one of the best podcasts out there! Can’t wait for the next season!

    So interesting
This is my new favorite true crime podcast. Episode 1 in season 1 is really disturbing though. I wouldn’t recommend it because of the sheer awfulness of what happened. However, the rest of the episodes are super interesting and not as disturbing.

I love how you describe every detail. You are a great storyteller. Great podcast

    New season is horrifying
I have been listening to Crime Beat for a few years and have always liked Nancy’s careful treatment of the cases. The newest season is too much for this hardened true crime buff to handle. Each story is more of a gut punch than the last, and the details are both deeply depressing and excruciatingly painful. Have not made it through a single episode this season, and was moved to write a review a few minutes into today’s episode. The interview with the woman who was kidnapped as a child is borderline voyeuristic. I don’t see the value in having a victim, who is very clearly not in a stable place to speak about her trauma, describe the events through guttural sobs. The story could have easily been told through Nancy and would have been just as impactful, but instead I had to turn it off because I felt extremely triggered. True crime is a difficult space to navigate respectfully of course, but I fear this level of disturbia will make it harder for people to learn the victims stories, which is the point at the end of the day.

    Gratitude
Thank you, Nancy. I appreciate you giving voice to those who can no longer speak for themselves. Although, some info is so hard to hear and often shed tears, I am grateful that someone still cares about those who are no longer with us. I stumbled across your podcast and now hooked. I love that you’re telling the stories directly from your hard work of researching and no using “Google” as many other podcasts are now doing. Thank you. I don’t know how you do it but stay safe and keep reporting! ❤️

    My favorite!!
I hate that I have to wait an extra week to hear another podcast episode from Nancy, I freaking loooooove this podcast, and the way she reports… this is one of my favorites and I am extremely picky with the true crime podcasts I listen to, I’ve listened to many and I can’t get enough of this one!!

    The Best in True crime
I have been a long time listener to all that is True crime and Crime Beat is the best. Nancy’s recount of these tragic stories is perfect. It draws you in like no other podcast. I live in the US and it makes no difference that this podcast is based in Canada. Give it a try and I promise you won’t be disappointed. Thank you to Nancy and her team for such amazing podcast!

    Ten stars
As a true crime fan, I can’t believe it took me this long to find crime beat. Nancy is an incredible story teller and you feel instantly connected to the victims and their families. Nancy is so good at making the story about the victims and not the perpetrators. I’ve been bingeing for a week. I’m in the states so I love that I haven’t heard most of these stories. I Highly recommend this podcast!

    Exceptional
I don’t like murder podcasts but this one is the exception. I just discovered today and I’m hooked. The production aspect is great (sound, volume, voice, redaction, etc). I love the host/journalist: she sounds professional, does her job, is compassionate, but also rational. Also love the energy her voice transmits and enjoy the perspective from which each case is looked at. Unaware of it, you also learn interesting stuff. Thank you much from the US. Keep it up.

The respect and grace that Nancy shows the victims and their families is admirable. She manages to tell their stories without being exploitative. One of the best true crime podcasts I’ve found.

A true crime podcast by someone who’s got the chops to do it. Thumbs up.

    Binge worthy!
Like an episode of Dateline. Not just a narrative podcast with a host just reading a script. I need more than that to keep me listening. I like how she interviews key people involved in the case. You hear actual 911 calls, courtroom drama and the way she presents the case as a whole at times it’s like you are right there while it’s happening. Great work Nancy.
