Rewatchability

86

Rewatchability is a comedic pop-culture nostalgia podcast hosted by J.M. McNab, Rob LaRonde, and Blain Watters. It is produced independently in Toronto, ON.The show began in the summer of 2011. In 2012 it was profiled by The A.V. Club and in 2015 our podcast appeared on CBC Radio’s Podcast Playlist. The aim of the show is to re-watch movies and television shows from when we were younger, and review them in an interesting and hopefully humourous way. Hopefully.Rewatchability contains coarse language and immature subject matter; our main goal is to be funny, so please don’t take anything too seriously… especially you Ghost Dad.

Great podcast. One of my favorites.

    Three suggestions
Just discovered the show & have enjoyed the few episodes that I’ve listened to so far. Looking forward to listening to more in the future for sure. Here are three suggestions for bad (good?) 80’s & 90’s movies that could provide good content for an episode: 1. Toy Soldiers 2. The Disorderlies 3. Surviving the Game

    Excellent Show
Listened to the Airheads episode by accident (long story) really enjoyed it and can’t wait to listen to more episodes!

    Focus
I like the movies they cover, but they get sidetracked way too easily. And, lately, they just can’t stop interjecting their political opinions.

    Better than Rob and Fab
Rob and Blaine are funnier than Rob and Fab (aka Milli Vanilli lip syncing guys).

    Ugh
Just lame commentary... if it's not the idiot who's laugh sparks you to viloence it's the fact that they don't get to the heart of what was good about any of these films. Wasted idea. Awful cast of dolts.

    Good idea but...
Hipsters making fun of good movies...

Great weekly podcast (plus pre-watchability if you join their patreon) shedding a modern eye on our childhoods. Plus if there were ever any films that you hadn't seen belonging to the zeitgeist of our youths that you never plan to see (I'm looking at you SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE) they watch and discuss it for you! Thanks Rewatchability!

    never stop posting
Love this podcast no matter what movie they are talking about. Not only are the core group and all of the guests extremely knowlegeable but they're also incredibly funny. The comedic riffing on this podcast is so good and effortless that i find myself sometimes listening to them talk about movies i haven't even seen lol. Which makes me feel like maybe in the future the show doesnt even need to specifically be about old movies (although I do enjoy Rob's Rundown™ and the overall structure the show has). I think this podcast deserves more credibility than it might have and I hope to continue hear from these guys in the future. This message has been brought to you by Hello Fresh™

    Rewatchability is Relistenable
One of my all time favorite podcasts. It is the only thing that keeps me going as I walk to school in 40 degree weather. Rewatchability is a podcast that will stand the test of time, even if the movies they watch do not. An absolute must listen to anyone who enjoys movies or just to anyone who enjoys laughing.

    Great!
A very nice list of nostalgic movies/shows and two hosts with easy chemistry! Not much more I can ask for a movie podcast :)

Funny Podcast That Looks Back At Movies From Youth
I found this podcast recently, and really enjoyed it. It's like hanging out with a group of your friends, talking about movies you saw when you were a kid, especially if those friends love Die Hard. I've been working my way back through the old episodes, and they're consistently fun to listen to. In the Frequency episode, you can listen to what it was like for one of the hosts to be there when the movie was being filmed. I would recommend it to anyone who grew up in the 80's and 90's or anyone who's interested in movies from that time.

I didn't vote for Trump! I love listening to you guys, you always crack me up! Don't stop!

    I liked them but...
...they said they didn't want me to listen. I thought this was an entertainment podcast, not a political podcast, but I guess not. It's funny when people claim that republicans are intolerant yet they meet that with intolerance by saying they don't want that half of the country as listeners. Bravo!

    Great to fall asleep to
The hosts offer nothing interesting nor funny about the movie they're talking about. They instead laugh at their own simple minded one dimensional jokes the entire time. Great podcast to fall asleep to though as they're monotone voices can lull anyone to sleep.

    Canadians+Movies= Awesome Podcast
I’m pretty late coming to this podcast at episode 219 but I have quickly become hooked and enjoy going through the back catalogue. I found out about the show through Faculty of Horror so I love every episode with Alex West but even the episode without her I find really fun. There’s good banter and they manage to stay on topic or at least tangentially discussing how the different movies relate to their lives or the greater zeitgeist. Hope there are more episodes to come and if not, I’ve still got 190 more to listen to.

    One of my favorites!
The banter between these guys is great! Hearing them discuss a movie is so much fun and really enjoyable!

    Great Podcast!
Very funny, with great intelligent banter about old school movies!

    Is very good
It's a fun, light conversation about some of the finer viewing content from our childhoods. Great quality, well produced. 10 outta 10

    Delightful podcast
This podcast is wonderful. The hosts’ discussions of whether various pieces of pop culture have aged gracefully or gracelessly are informative and hilarious. I would recommend it to anyone interested in television and films from the 1980s and 90s.

    Love it!
Crazy Canadians talking about things I watched as a kid! It almost makes me forget that my best friend killed himself via surfing! 5 stars!

    Need More
I'm late to the show, but dig it. I've seen all the movies and television shows you have reviewed except for Reign of Fire, I could never bring myself to watch that, it seemed up there with Battlefield Earth for worst studio production Sci-Fi of the last 20 years or ever. You guys are great, I think anybody born in the late 70s through mid 80s will have instant flashbacks to where they were when they saw these movies and that you provide new information about the production, the actors, and related pop-culture makes it even more enjoyable. I listen to the show on my commute and the Saved by the Bell episode had me laughing out loud so hard that the people on the train (I'm in New York) actually looked up and they don't usually pay attention to anything because there are too many crazies to ignore, so Great Job! My problem is that I've listened to all the podcasts available, can you upload some more, possibly a top 10 of your first 100?

Juwanna listen to a good podcast?
From old to not as old, this podcast is a fun retrospective on a bunch of different random pop culture subjects. Even though they are from Canada, it's still better than Juwanna Mann.

Funny and great chemistry among the hosts.

You guys are great! Some of the maple leaf jokes I have to think about or look up but you guys are a trip. You remind me of the podcast my friends do for games. Wish I could get the back log of all your shows though...I'm starting to run out of episodes to listen to at work. Keep it going you guys!

    annoyingly unfunny
The show is pretty enjoyable when the hosts get down to brass tacks and actually talk about the movie, but there's way too much quippage in-between. That probably wouldn't bother me nearly as much/at all if I found the hosts funny - I don't. One host in particular has the most pretentious sounding laugh in the world - subjective, I know, but it is what it is. Can't deal with hearing it every 7 seconds (as they do laugh out loud at just about every single thing the others have to say). If their sense of humor is on your wavelength, you'll likely enjoy the show. They're articulate, know what they're talking about and approach things genuinely

Never miss an episode. 5 stars. Super fun, funny and very thoughtful discussions around the shows/movies that shaped me, my friends and my childhood/adolescence. I've revisited many of shows/movies based on the podcast and the discussions for my own reference of rewatchability and nostalgia's sake and I have this podcast to thank! If you Canadian filmophiles ever visit Providence RI I will buy you beers.

    Great Podcast
These guys are really funny and do great commentaries on memorable movies. I always enjoy listening to them and look forward to every episode. The length of their show makes it great for a commute listening session. Also, their funny canadian accents are always enjoyable.

    Exactly what it should be
This show is my kind of show. Rewatchability is informal, and isn't plagued by pretentiousness like many other movie podcasts. The hosts are effortlessly funny and know their stuff.

These guys are hilarious. One of the Most entertaining podcast that I let my ears listen to. Can't wait for future podcasts to be posted. Download and be satisfied.

Very nice! They have a good sense of humor about classic and not so classic films
This is probably perfect for people my age (around 30). They do a rundown and commentary on old movies that were new when we were kids. It's kind of like sitting around and reminiscing with a group of film nerd friends. I live in Tokyo far from my home in CT and so don't get to have these conversations in real life very often anymore. This podcast helps prevent homesickness!
  • zekezero
    Love this!
I've been listening to them all but why did the fourth host leave? Loyal listeners deserve information. Love the show guys!
  • Br0wncoat
    Keep up the good work!
I really like the episodes about movies I have seen. Maybe you guys could expand the podcast to add more appeal for listeners who may not have seen the movie up for discussion in a given week. You could do little games or segments that are in some way related to the topic movie, but are designed more to create a fun dialogue between yourselves through which the personalities of each regular can be illuminated. Just a thought - either way, keep 'em coming.
