Culture Kings is a show for the culture, by the culture and about the culture. Who's the culture? Well, black people, but also just people. Each week, comedians Jacquis Neal and Edgar Momplaisir dive into topics ranging from sports and music to what's the best way to eat a taco? (Head straight up or askew) WE DO IT FOR THE CULTURE!

    Miss the kings
I miss you all so much. This was such a joy to listen to. I’m been going over old ones and re listening to them. I hope you all are well!

    Love the Kings!!
This podcast always makes me laugh, and there are many times when the topic of the episode vastly exceeds my expectations, even though I’ve been listening for over a year. They always find new ways to keep the show engaging. I feel so much lighter listening! I’ve had some rough moments in the pandemic and they have helped me through. Thank you, kings!

    Truly Excellent
Edgar and Jacquis' ability to rise above Matt's attempts to thwart their excellence is always impressive.

    Great addition to Earwolf
So thrilled to have the Culture Kings over here at Earwolf. Hoping Edgar and Jacquis can straighten out problem producer Matt Apodaca.

    Much love from AUH
Stumbled upon them on a SYSK episode and never looked back. Such a great vibe they have educated me about basketball (it’s not very big here in UAE) - give them a listen and find out for yourself

    For Dunktown Episode
Used to enjoy your podcast until you had the ladies from Dunktown -as guests and Jacquis allowed them to bring up Kobe’s sexual assault allegation unchallenged. Completely unacceptable.

Such a fun show! Thank you guys for all you do!

    Love the banter
I’m just some white dude in Vermont. Listening to the banter of these two guys on the west coast and of another color then me. Really sparks my interest of life on the left coast. Glad they are back and the latest ep. when they went out for Chinese was slapN. Give me that Culture, Kings.

    Great show
This is probably my favorite podcast. It gets me through every dreaded Monday morning.

    Thank you, Edgar and Jacquis
I absolutely love the show. Edgar and Jacquis have me shedding tears from laughing so hard sometimes. But the one thing I appreciate about the show the most is the episodes where mental health is so openly talked about. Hearing everyone being so honest about their own struggles has helped me feel more comfortable discussing having bipolar disorder with my own friends. I came for the comedy, I stuck around for the comedy, but I became a diehard because of the real topics that get discussed. Thank you for using your platform to inspire those like me.

The episodes with Carl were the best. After he left, y’all became a social justice warrior podcast.

    Love this podcast
This podcast is on my priority list, you guys are funny af. Mostly every episode I laugh at work. (And I’m a soda/pop merchandiser). Y’all have me looking all type of crazy! But anyway great show ,hilarious hosts

    Still good
Lots has happened over the last two years I’ve listened to Culture Kong’s. While I still miss Carl, Jacquis and Edgar have done a great job mixing up the format and keeping it great. Three times a week is aggressive and it’s hard to keep up, but has given me a good set of episodes to listen to.

    GOAT
If I had a dollar for every time I accidentally laughed out loud at work while listening to this show..... I could buy some CK merch. I don’t always agree with them or even know what they’re talking about but they’re so insanely funny that it doesn’t matter. I’ve been listening since the first episode and it’s been fun to hear them try out new formats and subjects!
  • Perkins.C
    Trash since Carl left.
This is the show that your white friends listen to and tell you they know about what black people like. Edgar seems like the token friend that allows someone to say they have a black friend. Jacquis is honestly the only redeeming part. But Edgar specific episodes made me unsubscribe.

    Nothin' but love
Always funny, always creative, always on top of my to-listen list. More Black Love segments, please.

Never laughed so hard while cringing
This show is best experienced in its entirety! Even the bits I hate are hilarious. Really loving the new formats too.

Bro, the Trayvon jokes. Com'on. I see that you are the type of black dude that puts on when you have white guests but using Trayvon wasn't cool at all. Do better bro.

You’d be surprised where I’m aging!
Maaaann!!!!! This episode is definitely in my top 3-4 of favorite episodes out of all the podcasts I listen to. Y’all and Ayo has me rolling and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to this episode! Bring her back lol
  • Dr. Dooms
A must listen for people of all colors and creeds!
Gain insight into the views of two young black men and discover the world anew! Enjoy some great running gags and taken to church. Whether it's games, improv, role-playing or NPR-style interviews, you will go on an adventure and enjoy every minute!
  • CubanBro
Cuban guy here to say, it's really funny
All about that culture. This show delivers. Absolutely hilarious, especially whenever a guest is on. I love when chaos ensues. I don't know why but I am inclined to mention I'm Cuban and any latinos that have negative stuff to say about the show, are wrong. Also wypipo.

    Hot On Hot Topics!
I have been listening to Culture King’s since their Against the Grain days and absolutely love them. The hosts Jaquis and Edgar are clever, funny, and unapologetically Black. They share unique perspectives as up-and comers in the comedy/entertainment industries on topics of the day from pop-culture, sports, music, politics, entertainment, love, and more. The Culture Kings offer unfiltered opinions with no qualms about offending people but with a point of educating their listeners to be more culturally aware. Jaquis and Edgar’s chemistry is dynamic and grounded. They also bring on a wide range of guest that always add extra flavor to their food for thought. Each episode makes you feel like you’ve been hanging out with your boys and are guaranteed to make everything from your commute to workout that much better. Can’t wait for the next episode.

    YUP
one of the best podcasts. i constantly have to stop myself from laughing out loud at my desk every time i listen. great guests, both funny and meaningful discussions, and episodes that aren’t afraid to play around with the format.

    Finally got to reviewing
There are so many times when I’m at work at the garden and I hear your theme song come on. I’m like oooh yeaaaah, them culture kings is back. Just me, the Culture Kings, and the garden. No matter what people say about y’all not introducing your guest til ten minutes in, you got great hosting and interview skills. Plus it’s all in the description. There’s too much I’ve learned from listening to y’all and it’s all great stuff. I’m so glad the LA division of the howstuffworks/Iheartradio crew started up. All the LA pods in this network are the best.

Culture Kings has stolen my heart
Jacquis shouted out my hometown’s very own culture king, RJ Walker in the first episode I listened to 🙌😭❤️ this is the only podcast I neeeeeed 😍

Good listen just check it out
Oddly stumbled across this when listening to the stuff they don’t want you to know and I’m so glad I did. As a WOC, it’s so refreshing to hear POC voices in the podcast word. Will definitely listen to more and ignore these posts saying that they’re racists because they’re not. It’s ironic when people say that just because they’re two POC hosts when they don’t proclaim that on white hosts that rarely if ever have guests that don’t look like them. Keep up the good work guys.

    My regularly weekly fix!
I am so thrilled for Jacquis and Edgar: Two black men doing what they enjoy and creating really interesting content. I love how the episodes are not the same structure every time and how much they laugh at themselves. It’s very familiar and enjoyable. I look forward to what they come up with next! Amazing work y’all!

    Need more of these guys
2019 celebrity draft is one of the best episodes in a bit. The show is great listening since the first show but this one was interesting with no real info coming out of it.

I love this podcast! It’s my favorite. The hosts are so funny and very insightful.

Just a basic white girl’s opinion
You are correct: white people all look alike & are the worst. Great pop culture takes, always hilarious and often insightful. Btw your discussion of random white people pop songs black people love — I’m looking at you, Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” — made me crazy laugh/cry on the metro. So thanks for that.

    Jolly Good Show Chap!
For all you hesitant folks out there who are very white (like me), I do highly recommend this knee-slapper of a show if you’re looking for some good ol’ fashioned chuckles (and some NSFW content). These young gentlemen are just plain swell if I do say so myself!
  • Jam Diggity
    Love it!
Found the podcast after Earwolf put out Edgar's The Wokest pilot. Have already listened to about 20 episodes and can't stop listening. This pod introduced me to so many great guests and Edgar and Jacquis are smart and hilarious dudes.

    Hilarious and Insightful
I’ve been listening the Culture Kings regularly for awhile now, and it’s the one podcast I always find myself recommending to others. The raunchier and more vulgar it gets, the harder I’m laughing. Jacquis and Edgar have unique chemistry and tend to have different opinions on topics which really does lead to some excellent debates. They touch upon some very heavy topics while still keeping the podcast funny. They always have on interesting, creative guests, which tends to shake up the dynamic of the episodes. You truly don’t know what you’re going to get when you play the latest episode. I appreciate Edgar’s openness to discuss his mental health and Jacquis’ ability to be understanding towards pretty much any topic that’s being discussed. The only fault I’ve ever found to the show is as much as I like hearing their producer Sophie chime in, sometimes she can ruin the flow that the two hosts have going, or she can get too involved. I get that you have a podcast to run, and you have to rein it in, but the hilarity, free thought and yes sometimes vulgarness, is the reason why most of us subscribe. Keep up the great content!

I love it husband hates it 🤷🏽‍♀️
Ha! I love this show (er except for when I have to forward through sports discussions). I have been listening since the beginning. But my husband haaaaates it! I played it for him once and he questioned his life decisions. So I tried again and he listened for ten minutes then hilariously started screaming “what is this! Whyyyyyyy! What is this about!”. The only time I got him to laugh was the “things I’m calling the cops on white people for”... he tried so hard to hold it but couldn’t resist laughing. This means that the show is funny on two fronts. 1) the actual show and 2) watching my husband go nuts if I utter the words “culture kings”. Also... I went to the Jay-Z and Beyoncé what concert to see jay-z... grown black woman here. That is all.

Can’t decide if I love or hate
I can’t decide if I love or hate this podcast. However considering I am 40 yo Latina, that may be more of an endorsement than anything else. I love, love, LOVE that they are constantly showcasing PoC when representation continues to be an issue for so many. I also sincerely appreciate that they have in depth conversations on the issue of race, which requires nuance and reflection instead of being reduced to a swift gotcha tweet. Why do I dislike? Edgar can be a bit too nihilistic for me. The show can sometimes also go way off the rails. They even have an episode by this title and I could not finish listening to it. It felt like Edgar and his gf we’re having issues, it was uncomfortable. I also feel like they can be too quick in their condemnation at times. Or maybe it’s because those condemnations are not followed by a discussion on solutions. Either way, I usually enjoy more than I dislike, so I will keep listening.
