wind-rider 7Very interestingI’m enjoying this podcast! I’ve shared it with my daughter, too. I have always felt a deep connection to the Native Americans. They have such a deep understanding & connection to nature. Thank you for this podcast
-
JCBearssAmazingI love listening to your podcast. It inspires me to get my Ph.D. in Native American studies. Can I be a member of the Wild Sweet 🥔 clan? I don't have Facebook

Dog Walker - Podcast Lover!A Different EmphasisSame story of American history, with the stars of the show being the Iroquois six nations! The dynamic of having the two brothers put forth the narrative is a nice touch!
-
RiverwaderGreat PodcastI’ve been a student of early American history for many years. Andrew and Caleb have a very engaging storytelling style that really brings this fascinating time in history to life. I listen on long summer and winter walks through eastern Ontario forests. Sometimes I can almost envision the first nation’s people who walked these woods all those years ago. Thanks for the very entertaining education!

BatmaninscEnjoying the informationI’m late to the game with this podcast, but once I started I was hooked. I teach art history with a focus on American Indian/indigenous art in the South Carolina. I have enjoyed listening to the correlation between the Haudenosaunee and the Cherokee people. I am actually heading to NY for the weekend and planning on visiting Fort Niagara. Thanks for the entertaining legends and the history.

Happy couple 7Excellent podcast!Great show! A must for anyone who is interested in history!

Nooch McG.Awesome Iroquois history pod!! Thanks!!Having grown up in the Mohawk Valley in Eastern NY this podcast is fascinating. These brothers have fun but present a wonderful history of the Iroquois culture, beliefs, and everyday life. Exactly what I was looking for and I am thoroughly enjoying the podcast! Thanks Andrew and Caleb!

Practice kindness b4Awesome , entertaining and inspiring !!!Know the truth and the truth shall set us free !!! We heard about treaties in school , but were never given details or accounts of the truth of the promises given . There has been a huge gap in the education of mainstream America as to what the 1rst nations people sacrificed , not only because of early settler/ invaders but how they helped us fight for freedom ! Every body needs to understand the hieght and the depth of the contributions from the Confederacy People to us at this current time and in the past .

Amanda (Brunette) RogersTwo Kettles TogetherFirst off, Thank you! I wasn’t raised around my Oneida family or my culture. I have learned so much from the both of you it is unbelievable. I can’t wait to drive to work or drive home just so I can finish the next episode. I am constantly telling my husband what is going on in episodes and I am sure he is tired of it by now. I just finished listening to the Revolutionary War Episodes and it just breaks my heart what happened to my ancestors the Oneidas and all native people. I tried to look at both sides, British and Colonist but I can’t get over how they both did the natives wrong. Anywho I wanted to see if I want related to Tyonajanegen and Honyerry and I AM. They are my 7th great grandparents on my father’s mother’s side. I thought I had seen her in my tree. I absolutely love how brave and tough she was. Thank you again!

maybruckThumbs upReally great show. Informative and captivating

Coquette23Excellent and informative!Excellent podcast!!! I have listened to all of the episodes numerous times. I teach history and each year I relisten to remember the other side of the story so absent from our books. I have recommended this podcast to many people. These guys do a fantastic job and I’m so happy I found this! I never get tired of listening!!! Thank you!!
-
JeansrabbitGreat history podcastI love how in depth it is and their sensitivity to the subject. I’m learning a lot about this region of Native Americans, not just the Iroquois, but especially them, and the interactions with the Europeans.
-
gsbcbjAmazing detail. Relaxed delivery. Healing impact. The dynamic between these guys (brothers) is fun and campy - a nice touch given the tough topics they often cover. Their approach helps you “hang in there”, long enough to gain a new cultural perspective and way of assessing the History you know and how that shaped personal beliefs. Really great detail! As an audio-biased learner, I’m devouring what would otherwise put me to sleep when reading. So glad I found you guys. As a descendant of the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka (Mohawk), you guys are really helping me to heal, and potentially re establish my relationship with my family. My story is the too familiar: kill them, steal/adopt, deny culture, denied reEnrollment by my own people. Your effort is healing me. Wado ꮹꮩ🙏🏽 Miigwech ᒮᒃᐌᑦᒡ 🙏🏽 Nya:Weh 🙏🏽

-
Laura the readerFascinating PodcastI have really been enjoying this series. I wish there were more like these for other indigenous cultures in the US.
-
CarolineMA2FascinatingWe are not taught any of the true, human experience of the Native Americans in school - leaving huge gaps in our understanding! This podcast opens the door to understanding, with diligent research, compassion for the tragedies of history, and rightful celebration of the brilliance of Native American cultures.
-
MostermaticFantasticThanks for taking the time to put this podcast together. I have learned a ton and am working through all the episodes for the second time.
-
BurgessyoyoGreat podcast!Thank you guys so much for making this podcast! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while and I’m so glad that I finally found it! Really enjoying every single one, keep up the good work!
-
NCtuscaroraGreat JobI love the podcast, and it’s a great way to occupy my mind during long drives. I immensely enjoyed the episodes on the Tuscarora, being that I am Tuscarora myself. However, I’m from the families of Tuscarora that remained in North Carolina. I know there is a little drama between us and the Tuscarora in New York Political figures, but many Tuscarora up north feel no hard feelings towards us. We are just now getting attention from academics to write about our history. Even East Carolina University created a land acknowledgment page on its website and stated that 650 Tuscarora families stayed after the reservation sale. Exciting stuff if you want to learn more about us here in North Carolina. I would recommend learning about Henry Berry Lowry, who was a freedom fighter during the Civil War and who was an NC Tuscarora.

fdalzellI love this podcast!I just discovered this podcast yesterday and have been listening non-stop (well except when at work or asleep). You do have a calm and gentle patter so sometimes I do fall asleep to your stories! Incredible stories that we were not taught in school. One might have to be a specific history major to finally know the truth! You guys are amazing and thank you for this podcast!

jradamsgs450Excellent podcastA friend recommended Iroquois History and Legends to me, and I'm very glad I listened. Andrew and Caleb do an amazing job! They're very detailed and present a lot of information, but their conversation is witty and lighthearted and it's entertaining and informative without being overwhelming. I really enjoy that it seems like I'm hearing a conversation, rather than two individuals talking about the same subject but not interacting. I live in central Pennsylvania near Sunbury (originally the city of Shamokin) in a town across the Susquehanna River called Shamokin Dam, so named for the dam built by the natives built in the area, so sometimes I feel almost like part of the conversation! I'm listening now for the second time, and I've noticed things that I missed the first time around. I imagine I'll pick up more from a third listen! Thank you for your hard work and the gift of us being able to experience it!
-
jros922love it!!love this podcast. thoughtfully done, informative yet conversational and the attention to detail/research shows. I listen to episodes at work, it makes my day go by that much quicker, and feels like going to a cool-professor lecture while on the clock. I absolutely love the podcast, thank you for this content!!

skeeter skonsonExactly what I was looking forThis podcast is exactly what I was looking for. It’s a thoughtful and entertaining review of a history that I’ve always been interested in learning but had difficulty finding source material for. The presentation is extremely engaging and entertaining. While it makes me lament for the culture we lost, it also illuminates their complexities and allows their culture to live on through shared knowledge. Kudos!
-
Bobby B36Addictively focused history podcastSo happy I found this podcast. Amazing job painting a focused history that loops in so much of Native American culture, early US history, and native history. Great details and presented in an interesting, and nerdly fun banter that is seamless and natural conversation. Really sets the standard for armchair historians. I’d love to listen to more history from these guys, but I’m happy to dive deeper into the Haudenosaunee.
-
blujean23SegoliBeen listening regularly, I really enjoy Yaw’ko
-
mttotSo thoroughI’ve been plowing through old episodes. Like other top-notch podcasts, if this were in book form it would be a whole series. There is so much info here, it makes great sense out of the pieces I already know, and the hosts are in engagement with Haudenosaunee people which helps guide and shape the content. Love it.
-
palimdronesLoving itThis has become my favorite thing to listen to and I’m excited that there are still so many episodes to go. They go really in depth to a part of American history that is ignored and forgotten. They also tell these histories in an interesting and engaging way that I haven’t quite found before. Highly recommended if you want to educate yourself.
-
Ljn20Great PodcastI am enjoying this interesting and informative podcast. I appreciate that it represents both sides in the various conflicts.

Christian OliverioInformative Casual HistoryNative history is easily my favorite part of American history, which is sadly overlooked. The hosts Caleb and Andrew present this rich history and present the history of the Iroquois Confederacy in a fun conversational and easy to follow way. I love how you can hear the passion and excitement as they go through this complex history and even throw in some of that dark humor we history nerds oh so love. I also appreciate them taking the time to explain the Iroquoian cultural perspective before jumping into the actual history. Definitely recommend this to anyone who has an interested in American and/or Native history. If you are a writer who plans on using Iroquoian characters/cultural dynamics in your work in progress (such as me), then this is a must (they even have a bibliography for you)!
-
Chuckie richULtZGreat history that is sadly too often overlooked
-
Mr. PONZGreat Podcast!I am a high school teacher and have found this podcast most educational and entertaining! The brothers have a great style and report and make learning the history of Six Nations and Iroquois culture a pleasure! Thanks for all of your hard work in bringing this you us!
-
Jennay_jeanAmazing Podcast!I have been greatly enjoying listening to this podcast this spring. I live in Western PA and learning about the real history of this legendary federation and how this area has become what it is today has been captivating. I love Andrew and Caleb’s approach to the retelling of this intentionally omitted history of the Iroquoian peoples. I have been sharing about this podcast far and wide and highly recommend it!
-
Dan C. (Batavia)A refreshing and exciting gemI just recently discovered this podcast, and am only a little way into it; but I enjoy it immensely! It is clear that the Cotter brothers have done painstaking research in preparation for each episode. Between the various historical elements dealt with and the sort of “sub-world” of Iroquois folklore mixed in, the podcast offers a robust educational experience that really connects me with my home state in a new way. I also like that fact that they remain balanced in their commentary. The great contemporary historian Joseph Ellis said that a lot of historical writing tends to be either *infantile* — that is, they tend to idealize our founders and the dominant culture — or *adolescent* — that is, they tend toward demonization of the same. Treatments of indigenous populations likewise tend toward one or other extreme. “Iroquois History and Legends” presents what seems to be a more realistic and nuanced picture all around.

Ryan of Mon ValleyRyan from the Mon Valley, Monongahela, Pa.Love this podcast! Very informative and I love learning about the tribes of native Americans that lived here during the colonization. Can’t get enough of it.
