Brian’s interviews with a wide range of creative people (musicians, writers, comedians, comic book artists, and more) are all illuminating and entertaining. A seasoned journalist, he is especially good at coaxing prickly subjects out of their shells. Highly recommended if you like, well, just about anything.

Brian asks insightful questions to get his guests to open up about their creative process. His podcast has inspired me to tap into my own artistic pursuits. Give it a listen!

Great interviews to hear about the creative process of artists. Brian is a whip-smart moderator.

I think RiYL is unique in the world of podcasts because of its mix of interviewees: people who do different things in a wide range of fields, from music to journalism, but are united in having interesting, often offbeat ideas that they perhaps don’t often get to publicly discuss in depth. It’s good if you feel like you’re a little too cloistered within your own interests and want to discover or think about something new. Brian is a great interviewer and there isn’t a wasted moment in the podcast (I appreciate this as someone who doesn’t like listening to random chit-chat).

Amazing interviews. They usually start ‘in media res’ and they are always entertaining. The interviewer has a great way of asking follow up questions that really highlight the subjects. Very well done, always entertaining. Thank you for interviewing so many independent comics creators!

A great little gem of a podcast. Both spontaneous and controlled, poignant and humorous - the show is set up so it feels as though you’re eavesdropping on a fascinating conversation between two close friends. Definitely recommended.

Great interviews by an engaged, funny, laid-back guy you feel like you could hang out with. He finds guests who are right on the bubble between famous and not-famous, which means you get to be two steps ahead of the crowd. Also, host is handsome and only a little sad.

This interviewer seems to think he is as interesting as his guests. He argues with the answers his guests give, insists on injecting his own experiences into the conversation, belittles their accomplishments, doesn't seem to have a grasp on his guests' history and work, and doesn't evidence the kind of deference that you would expect an interviewer to show. Strictly amateur hour.

I listen mostly for the cartoonist interviews. There are a lot of comics podcasts out there that are not really good at interviewing artists- that's why this podcast is so important. Brian is very good at maintaining an interesting conversation with his guests and he can talk about comics with enviable deftness.

These interviews are a pleasure to listen to, and are definitely "recommended if you like" the interview subject!

I don’t know most the people interviewed beforehand but thats awesome because Brian has introduced me to some awesome artists and personalities with a very informal, scattered and intelligent little podcast I look forward to receiving.

Found this because of the interview with Nicole Georges and I've really enjoyed every interview so far! Lots of great discussions about diverse topics with really smart deep thinkers. Can't wait for the next one!

I came across this podcast because I am a regular Boing Boing reader. The format is an interesting one... The podcast comes in somewhere after the "interview" has started, likely you are walking in on a couple buddies conversing about stuff they really like. I haven't know all the guests, but they have all been a good listen. I can't wait to see how this show evolves!

Stumbled across this podcast via BoingBoing and thought it would be interesting to hear a conversation with Jesse Thorn (of Bullseye and the Maximum Fun network of great podcasts). Predictably, I loved the interview and, looking through other episodes, thought I'd give them a try. Mary Roach - predictably great. Shannon Wheeler - well, I didn't know much more about him than that I'd read Too Much Coffee Man in the *coughcough* nineties, but ended up adoring this interview as well. Then I ended up hearing the interview with John Vanderslice. I'd never even heard his name before and ended up loving the interview almost more than I loved the others with people I'd heard of. What better recommendation could there be? Great conversations with fascinating people. Can't wait to hear who'll show up next...

Love it. Smart and funny. Brian Heater is not Anne Coulter which is reason enough to check it out.
