There are SO MANY podcasts out there, and a lot of them are really good. Somehow, though, none has captured the perfect balance of charm, enthusiasm, and downright weirdness quite like Get Played. The hosts have such great chemistry, and I love that they seem to be having just as much fun as the listener. They’ve developed a great community among their listeners and I’ve come to really love and respect their opinions even when I don’t feel the same. Probably the only podcast where I listen to every new episode within a day or two of release.

Consistently the funniest video game podcast I listen to. Would recommend to anyone with ear holes.

The shift in tone and focus over the years – not even the jump from the original format to what the show is about now, but just the conversations and long-windedness of nothing – has made a show that was originally tight, funny and thoughtful into a chore to listen to. The actual meat of each episode takes up a third of it at best, and it often takes the majority of an hour to even get there. Instead, we’re constantly treated to overlong RE Merchant segments, conversations where the hosts are only half paying attention to whatever games the others are talking about, and a vibe of “we like to hang but we don’t really care about this.” The recent episode about Rare game tiers, where the majority of the games have never been touched by anyone in the group, was baffling – why did you even make that an episode? Tier-ranking is already a pretty yawn-worthy concept, but the bickering and general malaise to the subject makes it even worse. I’m bummed, because this used to be my favorite podcast – I’d blaze through it every Monday morning and look forward to the following week. If they could cut the episodes down by 25% and actually focus on the task at hand while still maintaining their personalities, it’d be wonderful. I miss what they used to be, and I know what a nostalgic ding-dong that makes me sound like, but it just feels like they don’t care anymore. And if this IS them caring, woof.

Great show, I love hearing these doofuses shoot around dumb jokes to make each other laugh while vaguely talking about videogame related stuff. Very laid back compared to most videogame podcasts. However…I have to take one star off. Genuinely never before have ad reads stressed me out more than when Heather starts screaming in my ear to go gamble at draftkings or whatever, it makes me clench up my stomach in anxiety and I have to run to wherever I left my phone and swiftly move past them. not fun, not funny, PLEASE stop screaming at me about sports betting, it scares me. Otherwise great pod! RE merchant is amazing dont ever change him!

I know I’m in the minority, but I just can’t listen to this show any more. When the hosts are just vibing and talking to each other it’s funny and I enjoy it. As soon as there’s a scripted bit I just want to check out. At some point comedy went from the rule of threes to the rule of 5+ A little restraint could go a long way. Principal Skinner out.

It’s so tiring

Normally I like this show, if the opening sketches are often a bit much, but the cheap shot at Sacramento in the Vampire Games episode was both uncalled for and a tired joke. It’s fine. River Cats games are chill, and the A’s are playing there for the next couple years. I hope the Dodgers totally fall apart.

Hello everyone! Get Played is the funniest, most genuinely enjoyable podcast out there. Heather, Nick and Matt are all so passionate about video games with such a long history(safe to say most of there lives) playing them, their insight comes from a place of love and joy. Their chemistry really makes you feel welcome as conversations happen naturally with outbursts of memories making you feel like you’re hanging out with some nerds you met at barcade just trying to have fun. This show has gotten me through some lonely times and I thank them for all the laughs. So don’t be scared. It won’t hurt. But you just might… GET PLAYED!

I love this podcast! As a 45 year old gamer I really enjoy listening to this podcast. It has the perfect amount of humor and humor. Everyone on the cast knows their stuff and are always open to trying out games that are recommended to them. So far the few games I have played through suggestions made by the cast have been swell and dynamite. Keep up the excellent work and remember eff the haters!

Great, funny hosts talking about what they are passionate about. I also heard a rumor that one of them used to work in the video game industry.

Been a listener for about 4 years. The three hosts, who understand the ins and outs of the entertainment industry, offer very fun and informative input about each and every game they play for the show and off the show. Even if I disagree with some of their takes which is to be expected from other human beings, I truly enjoy the fact they have helped me gain different types of artistic perspective. This is a truly important point to make when making art criticism; perspective and expansion of horizons. Thank you to the coolest podcasters! Oh, and Nick you’re cool too I suppose. PS. Favorite video game podcast with 3 lovable hosts who also have the PREMIER Anime podcast, GET ANIMED. They have got me to play games and watch anime I’ve never heard of and turned me into a fan. Heather, Nick, Matt, and Ranch are the best friends I’ll never meet.

This has been my favorite podcast for a while now. As a longtime gamer and fan of HDTGM, I was excited for the release of HDTGP. The first few episodes relied on the namesake a little too much, and you could tell they were still feeling out what kind of podcast it should be. Though it’s gotten consistently better to the point where I look forward to it more than any other podcast. you can tell both Heather and Nick are very knowledgeable about the history of gaming. I have played — or am aware — of many of the games they review or discuss, but I’ve gone in-and-out of gaming periodically over the years so I certainly don’t know all of it. But the humor, guests, and format keeps me coming back. I listen to a couple other gaming podcasts, but usually only for the games I know or are interested in. This one I’ll listen to either way. It’s also one of the funniest podcasts I listen to. My one suggestion: bring Paul F Tompkins on a few times. Also... they nail the theme song every week. 10^7 out of 10^7 (Pft did not pay me for this review)

Not for overly-sensitive boomers who soak their pants in urine over words and opinions. Excellent podcast that thoroughly delves into all things video game by hosts that know their stuff and who just happen to be some of the funniest around!

Whether they’re reviewing good games, bad games, or something in between: Get Play never fails to be extremely enjoyable. No matter the format, I love listening to this show. It’s led by an insufferable effeminate doucher.

I listen to A LOT of podcasts. Like a lot. And this one has been my absolute favorite for the last 3 years of my life. My only regret is not getting into it when I heard my first ad for it on another podcast. All 3 of the crew are some of my favorite people in the world. And I especially tend to relate to Nick and his opinions

Don’t listen to the fools who say there’s too much Merchant. He’s the funniest guy on the show, more full episodes!

I really tried over the two different iterations of this podcast because they cover a lot of interesting games and topics, but the humor is so forced, like amateur improv, and it’s extremely grating, a total eye-roll when they try to be funny. It’s a pass.

Keep it up. Need more. I never miss an episode. Day one fan!
