Ordinary Equality

569

The Supreme Court has done the unimaginable, repealing the landmark Roe v. Wade decision and stripping Americans of a fundamental right: abortion access. On the latest season of Ordinary Equality, hosts Kate Kelly and Jamia Wilson ask: what now? What does resisting bans and seeking care look like in a world without federal protection of abortion access? How can we build community and support the most vulnerable? How are abortion providers in states where abortion was already severely restricted working around the system? Join us as we decipher the future of abortion access and explore the stories of survival and resistance in a post-Roe world.

    New takes post-roe
This is a very informative and thoughtful podcast discussing next steps. As they say at the end, Roe is dead, we need to stop talking about Roe. We need to figure out what we're going to do moving forward and hopefully create something even better. I really appreciate all the research and work that went in. Thanks!

    Arm yourself with knowledge
Start with Season 1 and the ERA and keep going to understand how we are now stripped of our reproductive health rights in over half these United States. Then take that knowledge and do something to get those rights back for good this time.

This is a safe place for women.
I can’t stress this enough, you are doing the world a favor by existing and communicating something so unfairly stigmatized and made evil. Thank you.

    Thank you!! Amazing work
These women know what’s UP. Especially now, this podcast is beyond important. I so appreciate the thoughtfulness, care, and research that clearly goes into this show. All of the people voting one star have obviously not listened, but I hope they so we can attempt at having real, honest conversations like the ones these women have on the show.

    Great work Kate & team!
This is so well done. The story telling, and weaving in of contemporary thought and sharing of historical accounts from the past really do this topic a great service. I feel like I am learning so much from these women and the stories of women of the past. So many heroes. Awesome podcast. Well done Kate, you rock!

    I’ve learned so much
Even though I was a young adult during the ERA and abortion-rights discussions of the 1970s and early 1980s, I’m astonished at every episode. It’s so well-researched and at the same time very easy to understand. There are rafts of things I didn’t know. Well worth your time!

Wow! Great marks for concise, clear content with various voices of lived experience. Including primary source content on the culture and people of the near and distant past make for authenticity and compelling listening, learning, & leveraging! This recovering SB subscribed! It was my daughter who introduced me to @designmom Big props for the voices of women raised in the LDS. Proof positive that well educated and well read women with a broader world view have powerful voices and we must be heard! 💖

I loved every episode and was reminded of some things I knew but learned so much more. I gained insight and hope and loved hearing from such a diversity of people and perspectives regarding the history of the ERA and where it stands now. I can’t recommend it enough.

    Bs
Hold up I thought this might make decent arguments but it’s just a load of bull because they are nothing but a bunch of idiots who have no idea what they are talking about and a bunch of propaganda spreading morons who have no point to stand on against except feeling and with the equal pay for equal work that was a load of bs taking in absolutely no other possibilities such as pay raises or anything of the sort
  • Redyaya
    Why is this still happening?
This is definitely a MUST LISTEN for everyone. It’s truly mind boggling that we are still having this argument. Along with every other human walking the earth, the very least we all deserve is equal rights, equal voices, equal opportunities. Thank you for creating this powerful easy to understand podcast. Another valuable tool to express how important casting your ballot is! #eranow

    Virginia Moves Forward
So when Kate was talking about Virginia passing the ERA, I myself being from Virginia, pumped my fist in the air and yelled “Thank God my state isn’t all misogynistic pricks!” Thank you Kate for giving me hope.

Cannot believe I didn’t know any of this! Sad that we are still not where we need to be, but happy to see these topics being discussed. I’m excited to fight this fight with my other ladies and get this world to where it should be one day.

    Fascinating from start to finish!
Through personal narrative, meticulous research & a vast array of experts, this podcast conveys the depth & breadth of the ERA movement + most importantly WHY it’s still so crucial today. Binge the entire season immediately— you won’t regret it!

    Great!
I knew a lot about this topic before I began, but I know so much more now! Thank you!
  • Mainer for ERA
    Engaging and thorough
I consider myself a feminist, and knew so little about this issue before this podcast. It takes an engaging, inclusive, personal look at an issue that seems like a no-brainer, but that many of us don’t know enough about. Makes a convincing case that it’s time. Ready to push for the ERA now.

    Empowering
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this podcast! It is my go-to and it honestly makes me feel so passionate about the ERA. I’ve always considered myself a feminist and this podcast makes me feel like a RADICAL FEMINIST!! Everyone could benefit from listening to this podcast.

  • We are talking stupid
    Victimization
You get up, you study, you take on responsibility. We are all equal, there are plenty of opportunities. Skin color is irrelevant. What happened 150 years ago is irrelevant. You study, you get educated. People are so ‘touchy feely” have to count beans- pretty pathetic. My parents were responsible. They are were not particularly well educated, but they were decent people. They preyed to God, they were great parents. It was not about $ - they helped us get ahead. Neither were 4 year college educated. They were wonderful parents. My father came from a broken family. He did not see his dad for 35 years. He did not think of himself as broken. My mother was a wonderful, wonderful, happy person, who loved to paint, create, put on exhibits, teach classes. She did not get a 4 year college degree. Her father was an inventor. He had a patent for one of the early vending machine money changers. His patent was bought (at a modest price) for what was used to create a company we all know call Vends. He had a 6 grade education. He was a Kansas farm boy. These were smart people. The opposite of all the Dem’s- get over yourself

    Very Informational
There are things I’ve learned here that were never taught in school. Before I found this podcast, I knew of the ERA. I knew almost nothing about it. It still blows my mind that the U.S. is so far behind in granting equality to women.

Women are in the constitution you idiots. “Man” refers to all of man (the species) so it includes men and women. Anyway, if men ( as in only males) then that also leaves out non binary people and others. So why are y’all not talking about that at least a little bit.

    Every woman should hear this
The information in this podcast is invaluable. It’s researched impeccably and presented in a way that’s easy to understand, even if you’re unfamiliar with legal proceedings. Kate Kelly is a gift to women everywhere. Equality now!

    Informative and empowering
The ERA is long overdue. Thank you Kate Kelly for this podcast! I also recommend The Ginsburg Tapes — which I have loved as a deep dive into RBG’s work as a lawyer in the 70’s and is extremely relevant to women’s rights as well as a valuable teaching about levels of scrutiny. It’s a wonderful companion podcast to this one!

The ERA and so much more
There couldn’t be a more timely podcast. The saga of the ERA is beautifully detailed here, but it’s also a gateway to stories about suffrage, the history of women’s rights, intersectional feminism, and so much more.
  • CarolMorganCox
    Excellent
Excellent podcast - a must listen for women and men to understand the importance of the ERA.
  • dane.rowley
    Knowledge is power
Thanks for this informative, fascinating and motivating podcast. As a straight white cis-dude striving to become a feminist and to raise my young sons to be feminists this is helping me know the history and future of the ERA. With more understanding I can more effectively act, and pass on the lessons of the future to a new generation.

For men who believe in Equal Rights too!

Great examination of how we change
The ERA is a benefit to everyone, including men. If we’re ever going to manage to move forward in supporting new parents and families, it’s critical women have equal rights. I realize women having rights has somehow become a contentious issue in 2020 but it is worth examining why it couldn’t pass and why it should probably updated to ensure the goal of protecting women’s rights, and spaces, isn’t actually destroyed by this bill. If anyone can be a woman then we’ve lost before we started.
