    Top Notch in Every Way
This show definitely sets the bar high for true crime podcasts. These stories deserve to be told, heard, and remembered, and when they’re told like this, all of that is accomplished. 5 Stars plus!!!

    Journalistic racket
Podcaster digs up old cold case and pretends to be exposing some kind of "hidden" story but really doesn't find out anything important more than the police did originally. Ho hum.

    Dates messed up
I’m enjoying this season but the day/dates are off. Jan. 6, 1988, was a Wednesday not a Tuesday and therefore the entire timeline is throwing me off. I only know this because I got married on Jan. 6, 1990, which was a Saturday. And if it was a Tuesday in 1988 somewhere an entire day was lost.

    Blech
This guy is a FILM MAKER. His complete lack of journalistic integrity, machine gun questioning, not allowing him to answer one before the next, ESPECIALLY with someone who is mentally challenged, makes me hate random ppl creating podcasts with no credibility. This is terrible.

    Season 5
I’m halfway through Season 5 episode 2 and all I can think is does the Constable really want this case solved ? It’s been over 30yrs so the way you’ve been going about this case isn’t working. She’s like a firewall ! Former police here and her way of thinking is so old school! This podcast I bet can help solve your case faster if you get out of your own way! Make sure you tell her she will get credit with her bosses and get that promotion not you!!
  • hundreds of listens
    Annoying. Question asking.
It’s just someone peppering someone else with annoying question after question, then talking about it.

    By far the best
Couldn’t stop listening to I binged it all. It’s o good. The way he described his surroundings I can put myself right there in the middle. Feel all the pain the family members feel. It’s so sad. But he gives them so much clearing I can’t image they ever got so much information. I so hope for ever case for the family to find and get closure. This is by far the best I’ve ever listened to. Also never felt as much pain/ sadness as well.

    Great work
Every season just keeps getting better. The topics are difficult but this show really opens up the issues for all to hear and learn. It’s definitely opened my eyes and heart. As always.. I want more. Keep going!

    Easy listen true crime
I really enjoyed listening to his detailed objective retelling of true crime stories. He really creates a safe space to process the information.
  • uber order
Good story but production is not great
The story I listened to was very monotone. A great voice and pace for going to sleep but not for story telling. The story seemed interesting but the it is just not put together well. Interspersed with lots of barely audible interrogation tape that the narrator repeats without providing much meaningful insight.

    Love the variety and compassion
I am only on season 4 but I have really enjoyed how different each case is. I love how kind David is and the way he treats each person he speaks to.

    Looove it!!
I listened to Season 9 and became hooked! I then binged every season! Please continue!! You do an amazing job on these investigations.

David does a phenomenal job connecting to people and asking hard questions. I really enjoy this podcast!

    First season is trash
The first season is complete trash. Nothing was accomplished except bringing the family back to one of the hardest moments in their lives. I would be embarrassed to make and release this podcast.

    I tried
Several of the seasons but the accents were too hard to listen to.

    Good True Crime Content
Great true crime content! My only grip is the music at the end of each episode is horrific. The singer is unbearable.

    Beautifully Done.
I have recently discovered SKS and have binged almost every season now. The story telling and investigation are done with care. This is a beautiful podcast and I am so grateful for the work you do and for everyone who contributes to you sharing these stories. Thank you for doing the hard work. Thank you for your calming voice. Thank you for being you as it is obvious your energy brings out the best in others!

    Great Podcast
I love how David tells the stories. He is so kind and caring towards the feelings of each person he interviews.
  • Elise N G
    Excellent reporter
David has the most sympathetic and persistent approach. He is skilled, patient and gives an elaborate explanation.

Host Lacks Charisma and Needs to Challenge The People He’s Working With
Host lacks charisma and awareness, this is pretty clear in season 2 I believe when they basically blindsided someone at work trying to get into at them and clearly it made them uncomfortable. That and doesn’t really challenge what the people he works with says, because it’s pretty clear even on that the wife and children are clearly delusional, oh he might not have been a great person, even though he was cheating on his wife and the wife casually let’s it slip that we was abusiveC making them all unreliable narratorsS

    Its not about you
I found the podcast to be interesting At first then i found the creator to be annoying as he kept and continued to put himself into the situation instead of reporting on topic. I planned on listening to other podcasts of his upon completion until the final episode. If you listen im sure you will figure where what he wanted outweighed the mothers. Its not about you.

    Like being there
season 8 what about that guy ‘ wrong place at right time” who can say what happened to Angel was the right time?? Can’t get enough of DR and company. If I were a family member seeking answers, I would want DR to be my guide. All done with such care and love

    Highly, Highly Recommend
Randomly came across this podcast and it’s just so good. Not sensationalistic, just well researched storytelling and great interviews.

So many true crime podcasts should study this series. How it’s edited, how story is structured… it’s crafted with skill and care, the journalist actually uncovers facts through INVESTIGATION which forces action to be taken. Narration is decent enough but it’s smart and empathetic and I really wish there were more producers who had similar standards.

Can’t listen to last episode question mark? paywall really?
I just got to the end of season nine and realize that the season finale is behind a paywall. I can’t believe that I listened to the entire series and now I have no idea how it ends because the final episode is behind a pay wall. If I would’ve noticed that in the beginning I never would’ve listened to this series. Be warned unless you’re paying you won’t actually be able to know how the story ends, very disappointed.

Thank you to David and his son for all their efforts in trying to find Christine. That takes so much care and commitment.
  • sacto11c
    Holy scary
The host, David talks to people in their territory. Most are harmless victims or victim avocets but then there time he goes to the suspects homes for interviews! Listening to this makes me concerned for his safety but don’t want him to stop. 5/5 stars and counting.
  • Teon77
    Just crappy
To put a last episode of a series behind a pay wall. Faith lost

    Skilled craftsmanship, legendary investigative journalism
Constantly impressed by David's professionalism and undramatic coverage of a fascinating case. Thorough, thought provoking and smart reporting. I'm a fan.

    Love
This is my comfort show. I listen to it over and over. David is kind and thoughtful in telling the stories and allowing the families to tell their side instead of just telling it himself.

    Great podcast
I have really enjoyed the in-depth research on these cases. Thanks for your work

    Season 1- just why?
I'm a true crime junkie and needed a break from the "murder" and switched to "vanished" people. Anywho, forgive me - my grammar is not the best. I love this. I love what you do David. I just discovered your podcast in 2024 in the states, Illinois. I binged the whole season. I couldn't stop. I had to know what happened. Then not only did I binge, I had to hop on goggle to see if there had been updates on Adrian.

    You are inspiring
I must say David Ridgen is an amazing human being. The care and commitment you have to others is inspiring. And we love hearing about you as a person!
  • Marklebutt
    Story teller
I listened to enough to form a strong opinion that a good portion of the boring story telling is fabricated and staged. Also, is this a left leaning political agenda podcast?

I can’t understand a work Ringel is saying! Why use these shoddy recordings when you can simply READ the story clear and concisely?

    Heartbreaking
Sad her mom had to wait this long for an answer. If they would’ve searched within the 1st week of her missing the trial could have been different. Hopefully they’ll meet again

    Thank you
The respectable way you are able to provide support to the victims family and friends while telling their stories is of immeasurable importance. Thank you for all you do! keep it up!
  • Parker21
    Should have been better
Season 9 is such a compelling story but let down by the host inserting himself. Bro, no one cares that you’re an atheist or about your favorite corny song lyrics. Just tell the story. Jeesh.
  • Beachespeaches
    Compassionate and compelling
Dave Ridgen breaks my heart every time. Incredible storytelling. Grateful for this series.

One of my favorites, But paid?
Love SKS, Been listening since the beginning. The new season is now behind a pay wall? Love the show but not enough to pay for it.

THE BEST EPISODIC TC PODCAST OF ALL TIME
NO ONE is better at this genre than David Ridgen. I am a fan of single story episodes on other TC podcast like sword and scale, Criminal, etc. But I definitely prefer the episodic shows where you can get invested in the story. And NO ONE is better than SMS team and David in this genre. I didn’t listen to Season 9 yet but I already know it is going to be excellent. Great work guys
  • N.Cali Girl
New listener, content good, music/singing painful
I’m only on season 2, and the reporting, delivery and content is fantastic. The music at the end of each episode, especially the painful singing, is enough to cause me to cease continuing this podcast. Hoping this dreadful singing changes on upcoming seasons.
  • ksubsn
    The geographical information
I love to learn about new geography so it was educational looking up all the places in YT. Otherwise, just meh. For me his voice is his downfall.
  • jesscleo777
    Drags
I agree with what others have said, he drags it out unnecessarily with boring observations and irrelevant information.
  • willmatic6
    Incredible.
Best true crime podcast out there. Spoiler: not many cases are solved. They’re active cold cases, and David is re-investigating them in an attempt to aid in the families eventually finding closure. The entire ethos of the show is to keep the cases in the public consciousness, the hope being that someday someone will come forward, or something will be unearthed that future investigators will be able to use in case building. The show accomplished this with incredible grace. The rapport he with each family is incredible and he clearly cares deeply about the work. If you’re frustrated by unsolved cases, go watch Law & Order.
