    Especially grateful today…
I’ve been a listener for a few months now, my first memoir was published a year ago. Last night I saw my first one star review on Goodreads and it put me in a bad space. On today’s episode you talked about negative reviews and you said something along the lines of caring less about the one star reviews and more about the thoughtful two and three star reviews. It was exactly what I needed to hear to change my perspective. Thank you so much for the time you put into this podcast.

    Amazing podcast for writers
There are so few successful writers who are willing to pull back the curtain on the writing life, so I feel very grateful to Rachael for doing just that. Guests are working writers who reveal personal specifics about habits, struggles and best practices. There are also solo episodes (my fave) where Rachael answers listeners’ questions. These are basically mini-masterclasses.

    Can’t get through it
I wanted to like this podcast, and the host gets many interesting guests. But her soapy, sycophantic, buttery, ingratiating praise of guests is too much to stomach.

    Excellent, useful advice
I just love this show and have binged tons of back episodes. The advice Racheal and her guest share is useful, clear and encouraging. Thanks so much for creating this resource!

Could have been mildly useful, but for the hate
I wanted to like this podcast. Herron has a lovely voice, which is rare among female podcasters. But a few minutes into the show, she started talking about something she had said in a previous show, and I think her intention was to make nice with people she had burned, ie conservatives or Republicans. I already knew Herron was a far left character, but was willing to put up with that if the content was good enough. But somehow, her “make nice” speech morphed into just more bashing. Not only was it hateful, it was based on nothing. She somehow things she knows what response from the WH would have prevented anyone from getting or dying of the Chinese virus. Nobody can know that, because the end of this movie has not played yet, and to claim otherwise, especially with the vitriol she was spewing, is just dishonest and serves no purpose but to vent against the “other.” If you can put up with the spewing, good for you. Or maybe you agree with it. But I do not. Too bad there is no way to award ZERO stars.

    A Must Listen.
When I envision myself as a “famous” author someday day, I make sure Rachael is my best friend. Her advice, vulnerability, and interviews have me checking my podcast app every Friday. Sometimes before coffee. And if that statement doesn’t convince you that is podcast is a must listen, nothing will.

Should I look for an agent for my debut or self-publish?
I’ve just listened to my very first episode and I have to say that even though you didn’t have to, even though I wasn’t looking for it, and even though others might say you have no business doing this on a writing podcast, I thought that it was brave and progressive of you to touch on the current BLM movement and more importantly, the role that the Caucasian community NEEDS to play in reforming their mindset. You have a voice and you’ve used it in a small way to (gently) encourage others to self-reflect and change. Bravo.

    Informative and honest
I discovered this podcast recently and highly recommend it if you derive writing inspiration from podcasts. Rachael’s interviews always yield information. She shares stories from her own writing journey, too, making me feel like I have another companion on this, at times, lonely road.

    One of the best podcasts!
Love Rachael’s voice in so many ways. I listen and leave with so much wonderful info from the specific set of questions Rachael asks her interviewees. Every episode is like a buffet for readers to taste from, learning what each experienced author has done to get where they are. I love this podcast and I could listen to Rachael’s voice all day long. I love her candor in everything. She is one of my top 5 go-to podcasts.

    Very bingeable
I’d been subscribed to Rachael’s podcast for a while, just listening here and there, but not consistently. My brain was craving more of the business side of publishing (like her Writer’s Well podcast and The Career Author), but then I hit a little burnout, and I needed to be filled with people sharing their joy of writing, and that’s where How Do You Write came in. I spent a week or two just binging in my spare moments, and it renewed my soul.

    I LOVE IT!
Such a great podcast about the process of writing - the hows from real people that really write! I am glad to know that other people like to hear and talk about the process as well. This podcast is very professional and relatable. There is always something fun and always something that makes me think. There have been many times I hear something new to try for my own process and that is appreciated. As a teacher, it also allows me to hear some other points of view and more options to help kids find their process and write too! Keep up the great work!

    Good format, biased
While the information presented is useful and helpful, the host ignores self-published authors. After listening to several episodes in 2017 every author is a traditionally published author. It seems Rachael has a bias against self-published authors. Every guest talks about writing and basicaly being patient or to keep submitting, etc. and none talk about self-publishing. I would like to see her interview successful self-published authors who are prolific. There are many best-selling authors who make more than Rachael who could come on the show and share how they write. The act of writing is publishing-agnostic and should be treated as such.

The gold standard of writing podcasts.
Rachel's podcast has inspired me to dig in and start my creation. The tips, interviews with many great authors, and her humble attitude makes it the gold standard (to me). I listen to a handful of writing podcasts but this one it my favorite. Thank you Rachel for the realism that grounds us in writing, passion for the craft, and the life of a writer.

    Finally, a short interview podcast!
I've just started listening to this podcast, and I really love it. The format is informal and the interviews are kept short – you get all the craft tips and inspiration you need in less than half an hour. Rachael's honesty and genuine positivity are very encouraging, and always leave me feeling inspired.

    Warm, informative, compact.
I appreciate the structured format, and the lovely guests. The fact that this podcast is also short, clocking in at under 30 min. is a win for me.

    Insightful and Fun
This show is wonderful! Rachael Herron is a great interviewer and asks all the questions I want to know about other peoples' writing habits. I like the different directions the conversations take--from light-hearted to more serious, and how there's never any pretention. I always feel better about writing after listening to this podcast.
