BigFanofthePodMy very favorite Social Work podcastI can’t get enough of this podcast! It’s such a great exploration of the wide field of social work, and helps me learn about new facets of my profession. The stories are gripping, the reflections are poignant, and the sound quality is fantastic (which is a big plus!). I wish they put out new episodes every day- I would listen!

AMO123456789EXCELLENT social work contentThis podcast is EXCELLENT. I’ve been searching for a good quality social work podcast I can trust, and this one is it. I’ve practiced social work in California and now New Zealand, and this one is the closest thing I can find that really supports and grows my practice. The quality of the stories and discussions are just so unbelievably rich and top quality. Thank you so much for producing such relevant content and conversation. I always have wished that I could do my Masters in Social Work again, since I know now what I actually need to know on the job, so this content gives me the ability to keep learning while on the go.

MflintoftAmazing inspirationI’ve been thinking about applying to a MSW program for over a year now and finally decided to do a deep dive into what it would actually look like to be a social worker. After a week of non stop listening to this podcast I know this is the field for me. I’ve laugh, cried, and gasped alongside Mim and Lis (and sometimes Justin!) and even though I know this will be an incredibly trying field I can’t wait to get started! Now to finish this grad school application! Thanks all for the push, I can’t wait to join the “tribe”!

Tcali22Great content and excellent source for stimulating creativity!Hello, my name is TJ, and I’ve been a social worker in the child welfare field for 10 years. I am currently in my second year of coursework pursuing my MSW at the University of Illinois in the USA. I thoroughly enjoy listening to the diverse slew of speakers you have on the podcast. I also enjoy your reflections on the content and your takes on various trends/topics related to social work. One of my favorite things about your podcast is listening to the experiences, expertise and approaches of other social workers in professional areas I am unfamiliar with. Those social workers serving the elderly, those with significant disabilities, in the medical setting, and in jails. The areas of expertise of your guests is expansive. I’ve been able to use this podcast as a sort of tool to stimulate my professional creativity. Working with children in the foster care system is a strenuous but crucial task. This podcast has helped me find new ways to be empathetic and caring. I’m consistently making mental notes on the successful approaches many of the social workers have implemented. Also, I must add, the technical components of the show are on point. The music is tasteful and not overwhelming. The audio and structure of your episodes are both exceptional and pleasantly simple. This really helps with making the content you produce the star of the show. Thank you, Lis, Mim, the rest of the team, and guests.

*T@ylor*Social worker in progressHello and thanks for all your work! This podcast has meant a lot to me. I’m currently studying sociology as an undergraduate. I’m considering going to grad school to become a therapist or for social work. As a queerer black American I have become incredibly weary of any government institutions ability to actually help disenfranchised Americans. Hearing these stories have given me so much hope! I’m still not sure how exactly I will utilize my education but I’m so excited to figure it out :)

Skit hipsGeriatric social worker in GR, MIThank you for such an amazing podcast to listen to. I have recommended my sisters listen as well-interesting fact-3 daughters of an artist (w/significant MH issues) and a health care administrator , all became clinical social workers in different areas of the field (eating disorders and psychotherapy, health care social work, and community social worker). I gain such insight into review of the interviews. I am in America, but feel so close to some of the experiences discussed in Australia. Keep up the great work and soothing voices.

[[:lovee 2 dance:]]The BESTMim, Lis, & crew are incredible!! I was considering social work as a profession so I started listening to this podcast and it made me finally take the push to begin graduate school to become a social worker! The stories are relevant and insightful and give me new tools to bring into my practice. I’ve shared this podcast multiple times with my classmates... I think it’s something everyone should listen to, both social workers and non-social workers! I even included several episodes as continuing education for volunteers with my previous job with a Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program. 10/10 recommend. Thank you for sharing these stories and your insight with us!

snf🏔So Inspirational and Motivating!Hello, I’m a new social work stories podcast listener. I have really come to love all the stories! I am a senior at UW-Milwaukee in Wisconsin in The States. I have had a really hard time trying to choose a population I want to work with. But listening to the stories helps to confirm what I have always thought..I don’t need to pick one population. There have been a couple podcasts that helped to show me that there are still a couple populations that NEED more advocacy than other populations. So I just want to say THANK YOU so very much for this podcast!! (I just told one of my professors about it last night) I will continue to keep on listening!! 😊❤️

CaroAbbottA must-listen for social workersI always leave this podcast feeling seen and validated in my practice and in my personal self. It educates me on populations and situations that I don’t interact with while also providing alternative perspectives on populations I do work with. It also brings me back to the important basics of working with clients and the value that we should out on their experience. I love love love this show.

caryguy1Growing my head and mindThis podcast continuously enriched my learning as a social work graduate student!! It makes me reflect deeper into my own practice after listening to these stories— how can I walk with more compassion, in what ways could I check my biases more effectively, etc. It has also helped me to be a better listener not only with clients, but with colleagues. Thank you for this gift!!!

Branda JordabSocial worker wannabeI came across this podcast and I became ADDICTED. It has actually helped me decide what I want to go into after I graduate. After hearing the story about the woman working with parents who have lost and infant I felt different. It seems morbid but I knew I needed to work in that field. Something about the idea of being the advocate for those parents was intriguing to me. You have to be the voice for those who may not be strong enough in that moment. Today I was signing up for my spring semester classes and I mentioned my new job interest to my advisor (who is a social worker). I don’t know if it’s fate but he got an email earlier in the week from a woman. This woman works in the OBGYN department at our local hospital as a social worker. She was emailing him to ask about any of his students who would want to intern there. IT WAS MEANT TO BE. Thank you guys so much for leading to my future career. I have also shared your podcast from all my classmates. All the way from Peoria, Illinois!!!! Branda Jordan

danausa1Love the content but we need to do betterLet me start out by saying I am a white woman with a background in Social Work. I truly appreciate what you are trying to communicate with this podcast and the knowledge you are sharing. However, the language you use, strikes me as problematic. Calling it a social work “tribe” and “come meet us around the campfire,” is inappropriate. Please do the research yourself if you are confused at how this may be problematic terminology to be using in this context. One of your guests when referring to a client’s past said, “I don’t know if that was in Africa or Egypt.” (Egypt is in “Africa.”) This may have been a slip up but it also demonstrates the generalization we use for “Africa.” Instead of recognizing how diverse the continent is. Especially as white social workers, many of us who work with populations of color, we need to do better at being aware of our speech and educating ourselves on why certain phrases are not acceptable. I look forward to listening to more episodes and giving this podcast the 5 star review it deserves once these issues have been addressed.

Laugh4Love it!As a future social work student, this podcast has been so helpful. It not only has informed me better what social workers do, but most importantly how they do it! Thank you so much and keep up the good work!

Mr. MeemanStories about humanity- for humanityThe knowledgeable and experienced hosts share real-life accounts in a compelling and analytical fashion. We could all try a little harder to understand and empathize with each other, and this show wants to help make that possible. It’s made by professionals, but the tools and guidelines explained in their stories are accessible and valuable for anyone.

MrsSmith0902Aloha from Hawaii!I just graduated with my Masters in Social Work and I am in the process of applying to start my Ph.D in Social Work. I stumbled across your podcast a few weeks ago and I am loving the amazing stories told by all of these fabulous social workers you have interviewed! I just started my first paid job at the masters level working primarily as a school social worker at two private schools through a private practice mental health clinic. I am loving the work and the people I work with (one of which is a fellow social worker and I have told to listen to this podcast!) the major challenge we are seeing is a significant rise in the number of teenagers coming to us in crisis due to suicidal ideation and/or self harming behaviors. We have at least one new student per week who come in on crisis. I am hoping in future episodes this is a topic you can cover. I love the interviews and the facilitation from Mim and Liz! I feel like I know you! You are both so warm and facilitate discussion beautifully! I look forward to more episodes! Mahalo!

yaknowyanelGratitudeI just wanted to give you all a quick thank you. I live in Los Angeles California and I will be graduating in about a month. I am so very excited to finally be a professional in the feel and I feel confident in my skills learned through schooling. However, recently while I have been applying for jobs, I have found myself doubting my skills and abilities to work with “difficult” cases. I have felt like all of a sudden I do not feel ready to be in the field and hold the privilege of people’s experiences and lives in my hands. Then I found your podcast. I commute to school anywhere from 1-1/2 hours to 2 hours and I just completed the first season through my commutes and I just wanted to thank you so much for creating this podcast. Your podcast evokes the vulnerability in not just the cases we work with but also the vulnerability in being a social worker. Listening to this podcast has helped me find my reason and purpose in social work and remembering why I chose this rewarding and powerful path in my life. I hope you continue to make seasons. I am definitely passing this on to my social work colleagues! You are beautiful people. Much appreciation, Yanel Bueno

TCJCTRLove! As a BSW student in the United States, I love the genuine and authentic hosts, the case stories, and the case analysis. The practical application and real life stories inspires me in my future social work practice. Cheers to the social work tribe!

amanda.joy.clarkThese stories stick with meThe stories Pam told of the NICU deaths were deeply moving; terrible and beautiful. The story in Ep 6 of the social worker gaining the trust of the children by being interested in their interests was fascinating & poignant. As a leader in my church, my work is not that of a social worker, but I could relate to so many of the experiences shared here.

TicklesndimplesIt’s about time!!Where have you been all of my life!!! I am a social worker out of Illinois and I work with high risk juveniles as a mental health juvenile justice therapist. I chose mental health as a concentration with an emphasis in childhood trauma because I decided long ago that I would dedicate my life to troubled youth:) I have been waiting for a “case study” pod since 2014 when I was introduced to the world of podcasts!! As a forensic social worker, I am intrigued by true crime pods but TRUST ME WHEN I SAY, I breath social work forensics!! Any stories you can share that deal with child welfare or lack there of as well as childhood trauma would be AMAZING!!! Keep up the good work,Ladies and thank you for creating such an awesome podcast on such an IMPORTANT TOPIC!! Ps. Social workers ROCK! 🤘🏽✌🏽💕
