jdlorenzo8Much appreciated and anticipatedWhile I still enjoy the podcast, please find someone in addition to Christy Page for “the last word” segment. I stop listening when I get to her. How about asking the listeners for submissions?

fjhcrNative Gardening is for Everyone!!I love Tim Mack talking about his native gardening!!! Gardening is my addition and I appreciate the joy and ease with which Tim describes his gardening practices and shares his tips!!!
-
JayReauNative plant fallaciesThe guest mischaracterizes non native plants, conflating invasive plants with volunteers not acknowledging that they escaped from home gardens, that they outcompete native plants because they don’t have predators and the relationship between native fauna, fungi and soils. Her use of the terms “wildlife” and “adapted” are misingenuous and focus on the winners that utilize non natives, and not the losers that can’t.

ConvertOutEastAnti Native PlantsGarden DC had a guest that spread unscientific and false information about native plants. If you don’t want to garden with natives, that is your business. However, giving a platform to someone who spreads false information about the benefits of non-native invasives is irresponsible. I’m disappointed that someone would give a platform to someone who promotes plants that harm the native ecosystem. Really, it’s disgusting.

kt-wolfIrresponsible about nativesThis podcast host feels no responsibility to discuss the importance of using native plants in the garden. Entire shows recommend non-native species and praise “what vigorous growers” they are. For Japanese Anemone the suggestion was to “pot it up” and give it to a neighbor! Japanese Anemone is invasive in some states. I definitely do not have all native plants in my yard, but I try to pay attention to the importance of natives in my yard and would never give a neighbor an aggressive non native plant. If you care at all about our local environment and expect to learn about how your garden can be a beneficial force for sustainability, this podcast won’t help. The occasional nod to natives is here, but is far outweighed by gardening suggestions that came right out of the last century.

04RyThanks!The hydrangea episode was fantastic. I learned so much. I have grown hydrangeas for MANY years, but can’t wait to implement your guest’s suggestions. Excellent podcast. Thank you.

drbabe003Top notch garden podcastGreat guests and deep dives. Not just of regional interest to the DC-MD-VA region. Kathy has excellent subject matter experts. Loved the recent Arboretum episode.

Nestof3I like the host, but there’s not enough infoMore time is devoted to the people getting interviewed than what they have to teach.

Enid&BruceHappy Easter DiscoveryAs long-time fans of Karen Rexrode, we were very happy to hear her episode with reminders of all those many years of excursions to the Windy Hill Plant Farm. As new followers of various podcasts, we were also very happy to find the GardenDC pod! As aging gardeners, we’ll be happy to have an excuse to relax a bit and listen!

weeniemobileInterviewsMy favorite feature is how you let the guests expound without interruption. I really enjoy their stories, expertise, and knowledge. Thank you for looking out for the DMV!

hebacita2So grateful to have this local gem!I’m a transplant like a lot of folks in the DC area. And I’m not so great at keeping plants alive. But now I’ve been here 20 years and am starting to grow more stuff and keep it alive. I’m so grateful for Kathy’s knowledge and how down to earth she is (accidental pun). I’m excited to keep learning from her.
