Skyjacks: Courier's Call

109

This all-ages actual play podcast GMed by Drew Mierzejewski. It follows the adventures of 14-year-old June Hymnal (Aly Grauer,) Kiran Rao (Paulomi Pratap,) Cecelia "Cici" Witwick (Aaron Catano-Saez) as they begin their careers as apprentices in the Swiftwell Courier Service. They travel the magical world of Spéir (from the Campaign: Skyjacks podcast) on a skyship and the backs of giant birds to deliver the mail. It's difficult and sometimes dangerous, but it's the adventure they've always dreamed of. Join them as they take flight!

    One of my few insta-listens
I’m subscribed to so. many. podcasts. Very few of them get listened to the moment an episode drops. But this is one of the few. I came in via the Campaign: Skyjacks podcast — I’d fallen in love with the world James D’Amato and his players built, and was excited to hear more but a bit apprehensive about an actual-play geared for kids (they can be slower and a bit too cutesy). But my fears were entirely groundless. Drew Mierzejewski and his crew have crafted a beautiful addition to the world of Spéir, expanding the lore of the setting while telling madcap adventure stories featuring three sky-sailing mail-delivering teens. There’s more than enough “there, there” to keep the most jaded adult podcast listener engaged, while still being accessible and delightful for kids — my 9-year-old loves this podcast even more than I do. (For the record, Kiran is their favorite character but Aaron Catano-Saez is their favorite player. They’re lobbying hard to start listening to his “All My Fantasy Children” podcast after hearing his worldbiilding contributions to Spéir.) If you like airships, giant birds, strange magics, lowkey teen drama, and godlike beings that touch the lives of mortals, give Courier’s Call a shot! And if you’re an adult or a kid/teen who’s allowed to consume R-rated content, hit the original podcast Campaign: Skyjacks as well.

    Fantastical and Fun
Skyjacks Courier’s Call is a fun, family friendly game of adventure that is consistently funny, touching, and loving. I wish I could’ve had a story so full of thrills and such a rich world as a kid, little me would have loved pretending to be on an Audron alongside Cici, Kiran, and June but adult me is just as excited to hear them get in and out of trouble every week! Plus, there’s a wide range of representation, which makes me very happy :) Great show, much love to the cast and crew for everything they do!

    Very Entertaining
A little bit of game play and a whole lot of personality. My daughter and I listen together all the time. I enjoy the attempt at depicting a more utopic world that is still full of adventure. She enjoys Cici being ridiculous.

    Simply Fantastic
I stumbled onto this podcast through a post a friend made. Before I knew it I had binged most of it. I’ve listened to a lot of actual play podcasts and this is easily one of the best. Drew sets a fantastic tone and creates an amazing world as GM while the cast breathes stunning amounts of life into June, Kiran, and Cici. It takes no time to be enamored with the antics and personality of the characters and get sucked into the plot. The show is 100% family friendly, but never feels childish. If you haven’t started listening by the end of this review, I can promise you, you won’t regret it when you do.

    Overall pretty good
Overall a very good show with a great setting, good GM, and interesting characters. Only downside for me was the character of Cici, who I’m not a fan of. But that’s entirely personal preference and doesn’t mean they’re a bad character.

    Take Flight!!⛵️
Awesome show! This show is much more than a podcast. No normal podcast would take upon themselves the heavy comedic task of telling a all-ages story that doesn’t hold any punches. The talents of Drew Mierzejewski, Aly Grauer, Paulomi Pratap, and Aaron Catano-Saez navigate a wonderfully colorful world that is guaranteed to ensnare your curiosity and compassion. Each actor adding simple delicate details that seamlessly grow vivid imagery across narrative, characters, scenery, and theme, as if the magic was to occur by accident. I CAN ASSURE YOU THIS IS NO ACCIDENT. While improv and comedy usually occur hand in hand, the additive weight of composing beautiful compelling stories full of life must be intense, because these episodes are edge of your seat action adventures! There is no bounds to the places, events, and experiences that this show offers for every age, at any time, at anywhere. This cast of creativity is so much more than podcast. I am a Yellow Audron Swiftwell Courier through and through and this show is to blame.

    Cute actual play
This is such a great podcast! I love that it is targeted at a younger audience. It’s given me a great way to get anyone into listening to actual play podcasts.

    Kindness, commitment and friendship
As a follower of Campaign Skyjacks I was curious on the extended world of these game playing stories. What a jewel Couriers call is. As a parent it is sometimes difficult to address a child’s insecurities and hesitations as they are growing up. This podcast provides excellent situations for children to think about and experience in a safe space. And it’s wonderful that kindness, support and mercy are the most important traits to have for a person. Thanks!

    Hilarious Fun
Few shows embrace the pure joy and thrill of creating stories for kids the way that this show does. Loving attention to detail and world building is perfectly balanced against Cici's over the top gusto and the insecurity young teens trying to figure out their role in the world are facing. On the one hand you could say this is a show about three kids who work to deliver the mail. But that would be leaving out the skyships, giant birds, and mysterious magic. It's exciting and most of all a blast to listen to. Parents of very young kids might want to listen to a few episodes first, as there are some instances of the characters getting into conflicts and not making the best decisions. On the whole, though, it's perfect for older kids who will surely see themselves in the very real struggles the characters are going through, trying to figure out who they are, and what being a true friend to each other means.

Everything perfect for kids and adults!
I love that this show explores Speir through a kid-friendly perspective! It's got everything - fantasy world exploration, wonder, tough decision making, BIRDS and loyal friendships. I can't wait to learn more about Cici, June, and Kieran and see them grow. My only lament is that the show feels so short every week because I want more!

    Do mercies
I caught up on main skyjacks and had to get some more, and I’m so glad I did because this show has made me laugh harder than I have in a while and the characters are so good and pure.

A great entry point to actual play for all ages
Skyjacks: Courier’s Call is good for all ages and all experience levels with podcasts and/or tabletop role-playing games. The characters are 14, but the players and GM are experienced podcasters and ttrpg players, which makes for an exquisite listening experience from start to finish. And the world of Spéir, which also houses the adult-friendly show Campaign: Skyjacks, is a breathtaking anti-capitalist, anti-colonialist world setting that features airships, giant birds, and unpredictable folk magic.

A Wonderful Show for Kids & Adults!
An all-ages show with great characters and unique world setting. A must listen if you enjoy compelling stories and flying ships.

Wonderful actual-play & truly collaborative storytelling
Long-time fans of Campaign Star Wars & Campaign Skyjacks should absolutely check out this total gem from creators Drew & Aly (who are also the team behind "Warda", one of the most creative and innovative worlds/settings I've seen homebrewed in a long time). Drew's GM style is fantastic: inclusive and always seeking to draw worldbuilding out from the players, and the roleplaying of Aly, Alex and Paulomi knock it out of the park playing the youth of from Thornvale who get hired aboard the ships of Spier. This breathes entire new life into James D'Amato's homebrew world of Spier, and is a fascinating parallel to the sibling how fleshing out the world even more. Real attention and respect is given to inclusivity, and for a true group storytelling experience. Take flight, heroes!

    It's Amazing Too!
After enjoying the standard Skyjacks campaign and yearning for more adventure in the same universe I was thrilled when Courier's Call was announced and made its way into the canon full-time. This is a really enjoyable, positive show that manages to embrace much of the humorous and adventurous attitude of the main show while keeping things PG. No need to have kids to listen; it's a blast at any age!
