lgavsVery happy to give this Beatle pod a 5 star Thumbs Up!Very happy to give this Beatle pod a 5 star Thumbs Up! A terrific deep dive with unbeatable research/info. Enjoy the daily news of the day for the Beatles in 1969 very much. Clever! Catching up on back episodes and find myself binging. A good thing! Thanks for the pod!

everybodysdummydeep, deep divesThis amazingly detailed journey forensically explores the events of January 1969 as captured on tape while the Beatles were recording what would become the Let It Be album and film. Nick provides terrific context and busts myths along the way. This is not for the casual listener, but true, incurable Beatlemaniacs will enjoy every minute. Plus, his production values are terrific.

SpongeBobbyHil589PedanticHost reading reviews citing how not tedious the show is that that is tedious. Positives - intro music, Sets mood for show. enjoyable instrumental music. A rarity in most podcasts. Host has good voice. Much of the tape hiss and loud beeps on the original Nagra tapes have been muted for a more enjoyable listening experience. Negatives - opening Parental advisor warning / disclaimer, CUT. Would have listeners believe that he’s playing the tapes unedited, but he will cut out bits he deems offensive. So why have the warning / disclaimer? Bell ring “show number 12,” CUT. We can read the show number in the discription. Cut the summary of the previous episode. Waste of time, tedious. far too long. My biggest complaint is after trudging through an episode you will come to a point where George Harrison performs Mama, You’ll be on my Mind. What you hope is that you’ll get to hear that performacne. Instead the host will cut the tape and simply say, “it was a great performance.” Why don’t you play the song? I can understand not wanting to face a copyright claim but you are presenting this podcast series as it was in the studio. Many of these songs were never officially released so I don’t see how this would be an issue. Screenwriting rule 101 show don’t tell. Podcasting play what you can of the clip and not just tell us. So frustrating. When a Beatle mentions another band or celebrity the host will do an extended bio.. If Elvis is mention most fans are already familiar with him or conversely if it’s some unknown valdvillian Yo-Yo performer, I’m sorry but I don’t give a Yo-Yo about them. I was waiting to review this podcast until after “Yoko wants a mic,” but the more I’ve listened the more frustrated and annoyed I’ve become with this show. I would recommend listeners to Something About the Beatles in 2 shows they sum up everything discussed here. Or simply listen to the Nagra tapes in full. Shame this could have provided an addendum to the Get Back series, but this too presents misinterpretations.

In 812Fascinating and delightful! You might think you know everything about the Beatles and the Get Back project from Peter Jackson’s great documentary, but this podcast gives you the context that really brings everything from that series into sharper focus. I’ve learned a LOT and his deep commentary has helped me see certain parts of the band dynamic at this point a little differently now, as well. It’s well informed by research and by Nick’s music knowledge. He is a charming host with great recommendations and a sensitive approach to all subject matter. Can’t recommend it enough!

ZsaZsaKapowTurn It Up!Fascinating, especially if you’re heavy duty into Beatles minutiae. However, lots of frustrating production choices. Whenever someone is quoted, the volume dips about 80% and some silly, scratchy sound affects are thrown on so these moments become completely inaudible. A shame because it’s an otherwise fine podcast.

Sadgirlinct88Fascinating podcastEver since the Get Back documentary, I’ve wanted to find out as much as possible about this Beatles era. I’ve listened to the Nagra tapes but it’s hard to make sense of everything. This podcast provides tons of helpful context about what was going on at the time (both in the Beatles’ lives and in the wider culture). I also really appreciate the musical/technical insights, as I lack any knowledge in those areas, yet they are essential for really understanding these sessions. Highly recommend to Beatles nerds and obsessives!

Evepop11Terrific deep diveThe Beatles Get Back sessions have been a source of fascination for decades, but attempting to wade through the hundred plus hours of Nagra recordings is daunting for even the most dedicated Beatles scholar. Fortunately, Nick Anthony has done it for us. He not only walks us through everything we hear, he provides invaluable context to enhance our understanding. It’s a first rate show, highly recommended for Beatle heads everywhere.

Mike in Jeff ParkFor hardcore Fans OnlyBefore there was Peter Jackson and his AI boost of the Nagra, Nick did the work for us. Thank you, my man.

Everything’s JakeA unique Beatles podcastIn an ocean of Beatles podcasts, Nick managed to find a way to talk about the Beatles in an original and entertaining way. Focusing on the last year of the band, he lets the actual recordings of the Beatles tell the story while illuminating the listeners with clarifications and details only when needed.

chelsm4889Fantastic deep diveFor me the best part of this podcast is the analysis/breakdown of the songs, demonstrating the chords, time, key, influences, and more that make up each song. I could listen to a podcast comprised of just that for the whole Beatles catalogue! However, there’s so much more fascinating information included that makes this podcast a unique and worthwhile standout in the sea of Beatles podcasts. Another favorite for me is the breakdown of what’s going on in the background historically, culturally, and personally for the Beatles that provides a greater context and understanding of everything that contributed to the making of Let It Be and the Get Back sessions. The narration and commentary throughout the tapes is incredibly helpful and useful, especially when it’s hard to hear what’s being said or you may not know what the Fabs are referring to. All around great editorial choices made for this pod. I don’t want it to end - keep the episodes coming!

Al O'LearyThe deepest dive yet into the making of “Get Back”.While I enjoyed Peter Jackson’s documentary, Nick‘s deep dive research into the same. Is much more informative and much more enjoyable. At least it is for me because Nick has gone through the trouble of finding The most interesting and informative parts of that period in The Beatles history. Thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you Nick!

localwallyGreat companion to the movieI’ve always been intrigued and confused about this Beatle era and this podcast, along with the Get Back movie, shed a lot of light on the project and each band member. Very interesting and rewarding listen.

Steve of Planet EarthCan’t get enough of thisBeen a subscriber almost since Day 1. Listened to everything. After ODing on this topic with 8 hours of Get Back I assumed I would be done. But I came back to it after the new year and am absolutely enthralled. It’s one thing to document the minute-by-minute interactions, but Nick brings these extraordinary historical references. Do yourself a favor and get hooked on this.

KackiMust listen to anyone who didn’t think Get Back was long enoughI’ve watched Get Back at least 10x now and spent last month deep diving into all things Beatles. This is a must listen for anyone who didn’t think Get Back was long enough. Has lots of great context added to get the full understanding of this month in the Beatles life.

sittingnexttoFor those of us who watched Get Back and wanted MORE!I indeed have watched Get Back three times and eagerly await an expanded BluRay release. But that wait has been made easier after delving into this series. The “real time” narration is great and often dryly hilarious (..”there’s that smokers cough again..”) and as a musician I also appreciate the demonstrations of chords and rhythms, as well as the listing of historical events that were going on outside of Beatle World. And I’m only on Ep 3!! Keep it up! (like John advising George on work ethics that he himself doesn’t follow, I too have a podcast (Where’s that Sound Coming From), but after a fruitful first three years have hardly kept it up…still, you might dig it, and I might regain my prior work ethic..) Thanks for all your hard work!

CalicoskiesFantastic companion to Get Back by Peter JacksonI love this podcast. I’ve listened to bootleg audio and often left confused. This explains everything in great detail. As a Beatles fanatic I really appreciate all the research and detail. Thank you for creating another trip to 1969 for me !

Beatlesguru1Engaging and insightfulI was prompted to have a listen to "Winter of Discontent" by the guys of the "Nothing Is Real" Beatles podcast. I'm about six episodes in to WoD, and I'm wholly bowled over by the quality of this program. Nick provides very informative and engaging, extremely well-produced episodes that fully contextualize the Nagra audio tapes that documented practically every minute of the Beatles' musical activities in January 1969. An obvious Beatles fan, he nonetheless offers critical, not fawning, commentary paired with accessible musical explanations. He's set himself a huge task, and I'll be cheering him on until he reaches the finish line. This show is a stupendous accomplishment.

Brianh129WowI loved the Get Back docu-series and was experiencing withdrawal afterwards. I did a podcast search for reviews of it and came upon this. Wow! What a treasure trove of details! I’m on episode 4 and I can’t wait to move through all of these during my Uber Eats delivery shifts! Haha. Fantastic presentation.

Amazon Baby BoomerExcellentIf you can’t get enough Beatles this is for you. If you are interested in song writing , this is also for you. Nick does a wonderful job explaining the steps and discussions during the sessions. I am really enjoying this.

KWolkyLove it!Awesome show. I love the context added to understand what was going on in delightful, nerdy detail! Enjoying this so much while waiting for the Get Back documentary in Nov!

PabloIOSGeniusThe Nagra reels are the best view of the Beatles at work we will ever get. I don’t think anyone has ever extracted the narrative properly until now. This podcast is fantastic. I hope you keep going until you squeeze every last drop out of every minute of tape.

paulsotherBrilliant; mesmerizing deep diveIt’s all brilliant. Can’t wait for more: the first 8 were mesmerizing. It’s a well researched deep dive. How can an hour by hour analysis of a studio session work? This way. Hoping to hear more before Peter Jackson’s film in August
