    lol lamar’s voice
Couldn’t get past the actor’s voice for Lamar. Who cast them? LOL. They describe Lamar as debonair, suave and smooth. The voice sounds like Revenge of the Nerds with a slight lisp. Hard to take anything seriously so I had to quit at the absurdity. Lamar is not conning anyone with that voice.

Try again with new voice actors
I tried twice to listen to the first episode. The voice actors make it sound like a cartoon - you cannot listen to this story without being annoyed.

    Bad acting
I listened to the first episode and can get thru any more. Terrible voice acting. Could’ve been an interesting story line but the acting is terrible.

    Lamar!:(
The story is great, but that voice for Lamar is absurd. Difficult to not be really annoyed every time he speaks.

    Excellent
Intelligent presentation, good story and insights. The large number of bad reviews is inexplicable.

    Pretty good
I like the re-enactments, they are my favorite parts. The non acting parts are a little dry. Overall, interesting podcast. The way they used religion to make money is a tale as old as time.

    Interesting and Well-Done
I didn’t expect to be as fascinated as I am. I had never heard of Keane. I’m only on Ep 4. She dissects the point of views - from the Con and from his Marks. It’s a highly intelligent analysis. This game is no respecter of education, class or intelligence. Anyone can get caught up in a Con.

    Meh
Cool story I guess but dang BBC, y’all don’t know a single voice over actor that can do an American accent?? These a-holes are so bad!!! Especially the actor playing Lamar Keene; that wispy, lispy, breathy affectation is SO ANNOYING. Really, it’s distracting and laughable. I’d rather read this podcast than hear it

    Can’t
Want to listen to the story but can’t handle the re-enactments. They’re awful.

    BAD Reenactments
The reenactments are SO bad that I can’t listen. Story is kind of wandering, lacks focus. Still, I wanted to listen, I was curious about the topic. But those over-done, breathy/lispy reenactments are nails on a chalkboard.

    Re-enactments Fail
The story grabbed my interest, but the idiosyncrasies in the re-enactments are too numerous and are grossly overdone for my taste. I barely completed the first episode then sadly decided my interest in the events did not outweigh my aversion to actors’ portrayals.

    Enjoyed this a lot but…
Really enjoyed this but the re-enactments were a bit overdone and I was instantly distracted by the fact they are clearly British actors doing quite terrible American accents (and a video of Lamar on YouTube shows he didn’t speak with that weird breathy affectation either). I would have loved more interviews with contemporaries rather than often just quoting Lamar’s book (in said terrible accent). Maybe it’s why I liked the final episode the best. There must be more survivors who knew him - it was the 60s, not the 1800s - or at least descendants or family of those involved? On YouTube with one search I found someone saying Lamar is his/her great uncle, and there must be more family given he had several brothers and sisters. But clearly there was a lot of research involved and overall the pacing and story is well done.

    Really Bad
I’m on second episode and I’m still not sure what this dam podcast is about. Look, you are trying to stretch the episodes out I get it, but my god this is awful.
