Open Book with Anthony Scaramucci

You may think you know Anthony Scaramucci: a Harvard Law School graduate who cut his teeth at Goldman Sachs, went on to build two successful businesses and had an 11-day stint in the White House. What people don’t know is he’s an avid reader, endlessly curious, history buff with a restless mind.In his new podcast, Open Book, listeners will hear and get to know the real Anthony: the proud son of immigrant parents, a long-suffering New York Mets fan and a father of five. Each week, he’ll invite you into an intimate and open conversation with some of the brightest minds out there, from business, politics, entertainment, and more. Together, they’ll go deep into a piece of work - whether it's a highly anticipated book, an in-depth feature story, or an opinion piece – to dig into why it matters to you, what we can learn from the past, and how their work is shaping our future.Along the way, you’ll learn more about The Mooch – beyond the headlines – where he came from and how he got here. He’ll turn the pages on his own life lessons from his blue-collar upbringing and career on Wall Street to getting his teeth kicked in the White House and then, coming back stronger. He’ll offer his perspective as a self-made entrepreneur and “open book” with a lot of experience, both good and bad.Tune in every week to hear fascinating conversations you won’t get anywhere else.

    Good job
Anthony is an engaging personality. But he and his guests often settle for glib conclusions. For instance in Califailure interview, the author suggests that recommending people voluntarily reduce electricity usage at peak times is “like a third world country. No, if we are a third world country there would be no electricity during those hours. The comparison could just as easily be made to cooperative Northern European societies who may offer similar encouragement and supply electricity 24/7. No hint of solutions or practical means of mitigation to a long list of problems many of us acknowledge.

    A 5 Star Pod
Anthony, your pods are always a great listen. But the best part is I learn a lot of somethings. For as long as you feel like doing them, I’ll happily listen.

    Paid attention in USH Class
So few public figures have US history knowledge at the ready.Anthony lends perspective to current topics with his history credential and it also engenders a certain depth of honesty. All this and a call to Mom? Love it!
  • AgeingGator
    Very informative
I prefer him to limit reviews to nonfiction books. But he Mooch is great both here and is RISP-US.

Great information and a touching moment.
The episode I listened had Dimitri on the subject of the next American century. Great info and I absolutely loved when Anthony called his mother to talk about the main points of the podcast content. Well done sir. Your ma is fantastic and on point. Keep up the great work!

    Love your author interviews
The only thing is you need to prep your mom if she is coming on every show. Sometimes she does not have anything to offer. When she does it is enjoyable..Not everything needs a comment.

    Thank You
Anthony, great discussion on Eisenhower, especially about his relationships with other Generals. Fascinating! Also, enjoyed pod on Jimmy Breslin. He grew up with my father in the 1940’s in Flushing. If want a great Presidential history book, I just finished Candice Millard’s “River of Doubt” about Teddy Roosevelt’s trip to the Amazon River with his son Kermit. You would love it. John Barrett

    What happened?
I've been a listener of the podcast since the beginning. While I didn’t know what to expect at first, I was impressed with Anthony’s ability to engage authors in critical discussions about their work—not just simple promotional chats. However, I was disappointed by the latest episode featuring Charles Gasparino and his book Go Woke, Go Broke. Anthony, I’m disappointed because this episode lacked the usual depth and balance I've come to appreciate. You allowed Charles to present a narrow and skewed take on a critical issue: the role of corporations, wealthy capitalists, and government in shaping cultural narratives and agendas. His points about companies like Target and Disney were presented without considering similar examples that don’t fit his argument, like Hobby Lobby, Cracker Barrel, and My Pillow. For instance, Hobby Lobby went all the way to the Supreme Court to win the right to deny contraception coverage for its employees—a highly influential stance on personal rights. How is this not equally heavy-handed? How is this different from the influence of the corporations Charles criticizes? Moreover, the conversation around "virtue signaling" felt insincere. Charles seemed to focus only on the companies he takes issue with, conveniently ignoring figures like Elon Musk, who regularly makes strong ideological statements. The fact is, almost every high-profile billionaire today engages in virtue signaling in some form. In a pluralistic society—a melting pot like ours—it’s crucial to discuss how we can prevent cultural tensions from boiling over. Unfortunately, this episode felt more like adding fuel to the fire than fostering understanding. Lastly, as a journalist, Charles seemed surprisingly loose with his claims, offering few facts or data to support some very strong assertions. I love your show, but this episode felt like a miss for me. The two-star rating may be a bit harsh, but I felt genuinely disappointed.

Love everything except the Kerri Lake ad
I love listening to Anthony but if the Kerri Lake ads continue I will stop listening until after the election

A rich guy with genuine humility!
Normally, my thoughts about someone who started out his career at Goldman Sachs would get an automatic snub for being a hoity-toity rich dude who couldn't possibly relate to most people - certainly not those out of the New York high society folks. But Anthony Scaramucci is cut from a unique cloth. You can tell by his demeanor and especially through his media interviews and this podcast that he has both a love of learning and a respect for folks from all walks of life (that's my impression anyway). It's also easily apparent that he's incredibly smart and a critical thinker. If it weren't for his ill-fated short stint in the Trump administration, I would have likely never heard of him. Seeing his efforts to reach as many people as possible to warn of the prescient dangers of another Trump presidency has been a fascinating look at a type of person I didn't really believe existed among the wealthy folks in the US - a rich guy with genuine humility.

    Love the show
Anthony, I love your conversations. I watch sometimes on YouTube, you look great for 60 but I suggest stop drinking whatever you’re sucking through that straw. Get DR Hyman on so he can tell you why.

    Great show
Anthony creates interesting and open conversations with his guests. Anthony himself is refreshingly direct: he gives it to you like it is, warts and all. And the calls with “Ma” are priceless.
  • Eliza Pointe
    Fun and informative
Anthony is personable, has a gentle sense of humor, and has a nice way of being honest, without being waspish. I love how he calls his mother for her input at the end of the podcast. And she is a charmer!

Clarity of language equals clarity of thought.
I am inspired by this podcast. Anthony Scaramucci’s questions are incredibly thoughtful. He adds historical context to the ideas illuminate certain ideas with such precise language that I feel I owe tuition after some episodes. His thoughts and the language he uses to express them seem to arrive the same time. Just as he graduated from law school without the intent to practice law, I graduated with a degree in English Literature and likewise found my way into the business world 30 years ago. I found this podcast by accident- and as he learned at “Toughs” - some times remarkable things happen this way.

    I won’t call him a comeback kid
To be frank, I only knew of “the Mooch” from the short tenure beside Trump and I decided he must be “guilty by association.” My favorite podcast series is done by the production company Goldhanger and by playing online hopscotch, found the “Rest is Politics” podcast with Anthony. That led me to to this podcast, which focuses each episode on a recent published book. As a fellow bibliophile, my esteem for Anthony has only grown. I’m thoroughly impressed and I suspect that he will be an overnight success after 3+ decades😉

    Topics I hope you cover
I rarely listen to podcasts, so when I saw you and Kathy Kay on Morning Joe, (everything you said hit home like no one else). You didn’t ask us, but, I would like to hear a deeper dive into (not just, oh no! we could lose our democracy) but what exactly could happen in detail to the lives of 1. Democrats and 2. His base and 3. Republicans. I want it all spelled out, then crafted into a concise form and blasted out by the media. I feel Biden is my man, but not an effective spokesman. Couldn’t they find one really strong persuasive personality (like a press secretary) to speak daily of Biden’s accomplishments? We need mega strong counteraction to Fox and lies unlimited. Karine Jean-Pierre is excellent but too soft spoken.

    Enjoyable interview with Christie
Scaramucci was a better interviewer than I expected. Asked some good questions to Christie, some that I have not heard before.

Call me a fan - now!
Wow! I was searching for poll numbers for Chris Christie and came across a podcast with Scaramucci and Christie. Initially, I wasn’t going to download it because, candidly, I haven’t historically been a Scaramucci fan. I found his sycophant antics when Trump was running in 2016 to be nauseating. He knew Trump was a fake/failed businessman, yet he propped him up anyway and kissed up to him until he got a job in the WH. In these podcasts, Anthony comes across much more balanced, realistic, and honest than back when he was making the news show rounds as a “talking head”. These podcasts are great and I’m about to binge all 39 episodes and have notifications on for the rest!

Free Press Is Doing The Job
Overall, media has our back and DOJ. We don’t need Christie. He is fun to listen to, entertaining and jolly Fat. He sucked up to Trump when little old ordinary me knew Trump was a disaster. Really, I am smarter than Christie!?? So were other Biden supporters and Never Trumpeters. I would not even wage $1 buck on him. I forgive him but will never ever reward him with my trust. He is going to have to redeem himself a lot more than just running for president and running his mouth off at Trump.

Great and informative episode. Love the mix of politics and personal. With a 2 party system how can independents/moderates make a difference, since we can’t vote in primaries, when our choice is to pick the lesser of 2 evils. I would like to see more discussion on options for moderates.

    Drinkin bros owned this guy
He appeared on the drinkin bros podcast and Dan Halloway owned this fool so bad that he signed off the zoom after being told to WAIT WAIT WAIT. He’s a grifter and will basically change his stripes to get anywhere he need to go.

    Now a Fan
When Anthony accepted a position with the Trump administration, I lost respect for him and frankly, thought he was just another egomaniac seeking attention. However, I have changed my mind for many different reasons. When he was fired, I appreciated the fact he was willing to tell the truth about his short time with the admin and how he was treated. Since then I have followed his commentaries and even caught a few minutes of Special Forces. Anthony is charismatic, courageous, and a truthteller. He’s an excellent interviewer and I highly recommend his podcast. Enjoy his frankness -it’s a refreshing change

    Looking forward to it!
Looking forward to Anthony’s take on entrepreneurship, leadership, being creative and resourceful during challenging scenarios/economic climates, and how to optimize your life with a balance of strategy and tactics to move mountains in your industry. Another great addition to not only Anthony’s brand, but more importantly, the public discussion about life, business, and everything in-between!
