The Dead

In a world plagued by the undead, the stories of survivors are well-known and heralded as examples of hope, strength, and perseverance. Over time, they become fables, legends passed down from survivor to survivor. But those are the stories of the few, not the many who continue to walk the earth as shells of their former selves. These are their stories. These are the stories of THE DEAD.

    What happened??
Started strong but has become a parody of its self. The voice acting sounds like it’s done by people who have never spoken to another person before. Along side that the writing is so weird. Who are these people and why do they think this dialog is how anyone talks. If I were left with these people during a zombie apocalypse I’d either let myself get bitten or just survive solo.

“Home” story had the best acting I’ve heard
That storyline tugged and tore at my heart strings. And that’s for the phenomenal acting that the entire show offered. Please, if you’re going to listen to any of them, give it to Home. The rest of the stories are great, but Home will stay with me for a while. Thank you guys.

Story line is ok but acting is…
Story lines arent bad. Acting isn’t great at all though. The southern accents in silent key make me cringe.

    Try actors.
I’ve had enough. I’ve heard better acting at a frat house. I realize you have to use your imagination with radio drama, but the only thing I can imagine here is some people sitting at a table and reading lines from a script. There are plenty of out-of-work REAL actors who would work for free just to improve stuff like this. George Romero is rolling in his grave.

    Meh
The writing is meh. The voice acting is meh. The pandering is strong. So I guess if you’re into that left leaning crap that’ll be a thumbs up for you. So far I’m not impressed. My love of all things Zombie will keep me listening at least a little while longer, but I really hope it gets better. Update: The Home episode is really good and the actor who plays Owen is also really good. Bumping up my rating for his performance alone. Update: The home episode was really good and the actor playing Owen was great. I bumped up the overall score because of this.

    Sound issues
Turas part four had some moments where the actress sounded like she was in a steel box or something.

    Editing
Don’t hate the stories but my only annoyance is the volume being so dang low with the host and high with the story this is an ongoing issue since day 1. Please fix?

    Great horror addio drama!
I'm never going to be ready for the zombie apocalypse, am I? This show is a scary fun listen!
  • Great chemistry, great sound
Great show that they obviously put a lot of care into
Shame to see a string of negative reviews on this show given the obvious effort and care put into its production. I highly recommend you give it a chance because it's a master class on immersive audio.

    Fast Forward
Tediously predictable and terribly slow paced. Rooting for the zombies to win. If you must listen in the hopes of it getting better, I recommend listening on 2x speed to avoid throwing yourself in to traffic to end the suffering.

Bad Writing. Hit or miss voice acting
I really really really want to like this series. I love zombie content and I really like the premise but it suffers from sub par writing. The premise’s are excellent! The virus introduced to novel environments I think sums it up well. But the actual writing is just Meh! I will say that the first series was a lot better than the second. I think the voice actors (one in particular) in the second series were just terrible and so was the writing. As a side note, I don’t know how much of the bad pacing can be credited to bad direction and or editing. There’s always these weird lags between action beats and dialogue that slow everything down and spoils the tension. The sound mixing during action is poor. There’s plenty of action based podcasting these days so there’s no real excuse except for an inexperienced team.

    Listen Up!
I heard about this show and immediately subscribed. Love it and I also love hearing a lot of voices I recognize from other projects. I also appreciate it’s partnered with the George Romero Foundation. Keep up the great work.

    There’s nothing here
I LOVE all things zombie - as in, I literally have walking dead playing as background noise while I work. And I just could not engage with this story. The production, mixing, and actors are all fantastic, but there’s just nothing here. It’s barely a story. I couldn’t outline a discernible beginning, middle, and end to any of the series if my life depended on it. There’s a couple mini-vignettes where you think it’s going somewhere, and it just doesn’t. The plot is..well.. It’s a LOT like watching skinamarink, but with a looping track of zombie sounds. Skip this and listen to “We’re Alive” for an original zombie story with fully developed characters and plenty to binge.

    Not better than “We’re Alive”
When you make a drama podcast on zombies you have to compete against the very best: “We’re Alive.” George Romero graphics and connections can’t get away from the simple fact that the writing is very poor. You literally have no idea where you are or what’s happening. The writers need to stop watching movies and listen to BBC and OTR radio shows on how to write radio/podcast dramas. It’s no fun having to figure things out after the hatch. A simple “When does the flight leave” or “let’s go in the cargo bay” goes a long way. It’s audio. You need to create pictures with words and sounds!

    Room to improve
After listening to all of precious cargo, I found it to be middling in a lot of ways. I’m happy that it’s going to be differnt writers for all four series. I love the idea of hearing the stories of the dead and how they died. I’ll be listening and hoping it improves. Despite that thanks for the hard work you put into this! The production people are doing a good job!

I am loving this show 🖤🧟‍♀️🧟‍♂️

    Meh
Bad writing, easily predictable plot. Please make characters’ actions more believable/realistic. “We’re flying to Hawaii because Bill said so EVEN THOUGH there is a sick(Zombie) and a dying person on board” is a very bad plot point… Good voice acting though.

    Great show
It’s really good so far but the repeating of names is annoying. Other than that I seriously can’t wait to hear more!
