Funman2008The bestIn my opinion this is the best Sailing Podcast for Cruising Sailor’s. It seems to have the right blend of interviews and monologues. He covers areas which are of interest to me. His interviews are well thought out and he gives the guests time to answer the questions thoroughly he does not interrupt like so many interviewers do. I think Franz is one of the best interviewers out there he also has a very pleasant voice. Give a listen you’ll be pleasantly surprised like I was.

NdyokDone…Read about science Franz…you’re smarter than that. Google the definition of a vaccine. You should know there’s a difference between an immunization and a vaccine. I can’t anymore. Sorry.

McBattusFree-form and relaxed but packed with information and experienceI found Franz’s “Sailing in the Mediterranean” podcast through a lucky search and I am so glad I did. I have sailed a few times in the Med and the combination of idyllic places, wonderful foods, history all around you, great sailing and interesting friendly people has me planning a long term return. Franz’s relaxed free-form style, his own stories and his great guests and their experiences makes this a great listen. Every episode gives me more knowledge or topics that point me in a direction to do more research on. Thanks Franz! Please keep ‘em coming!

smith8273Enjoyable Listening!Franz does an excellent job hosting this podcast, finding and interviewing his guests.
-
dehnerGreat sailing content, bad conspiracy theoriesThis podcast has some great sailing interviews, but his intros have become longer and longer and dive deeper into pro-trump, covid is government control, deep state like conspiracy theories. Skip the first 15 mins.

mgmpcI’ve learned a lot about places I want to sail.I really enjoy listening to Franz. I’m a new sailor (but an old retired guy) and I hope to have a boat someday. I can’t wait to sail around the Med and beyond. I enjoyed the Dylan Magster episode. I now follow him also. He is an inspiring young man. Thank Franz!

SarahmreynoldsLove this podcast!I am a lifelong boater and my husband and I just made the switch from motor boating to sail boating. We have been sailing for over a year now and we LOVE the life style. I found this podcast and love the interviews. I have learned so much and Franz your interview style is so fantastic. I have learned so much and have listened to all of the episodes and am always excited to see a new one pop up! Thank you very much! Sail Fast!

K999DanA Wonderful Sailing Podcast for the Mediterranean CruiserI have been listening to this podcast for a couple of years now and have played many of the episodes multiple times as Franz is not only entertaining but along with his Nautical guests, they have a wealth of knowledge for the cruising Med Sailor, whether you are looking for a quiet sheltered anchorage in Italy, a place to perform boat jobs or provisioning in Almerimar, Spain or looking to buy your next boat or Charter in Croatia, this podcast has it all. After several years of sailing in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, I am returning to my European home to complete the purchase of my next boat and plan to sail it back to the USA later this year and I have been plotting the courses along with Franz when he follows his Guests with Google Earth as they describe the many different places they have visited. I have especially liked listening to guests such as Jack Andrys, Andrew Vic and of course Jackson and Xanthe from the YouTube Sailing channel Sailing Avalon. Once again, thank you for being entertaining and a wealth of invaluable knowledge. I hope I get to share a beverage with you, or one of your guests or maybe a fellow listener during my travels this year and spin a nautical yarn or two. Best wishes, and fair winds, Daniel.

KenSchwabentonInformative and entertainingThanks Franz for a great Podcast. I found this podcast about a year ago while researching just that, “Sailing in the Mediterranean”. It’s been a great source for information and motivation. Franz recently took the time to answer my email in the podcast. As an American sailor there is not a ton of information for Americans wishing to sail the Med. This podcast has been gold!

stooge91390Very interesting info on sailing/traveI’m one of the apparent hoard of listeners who do not sail. I’ve been listening for several years and finally signed up for sailing lessons. My first lesson is this coming Sunday. Franz will get the credit/blame depending on whether I love/hate actually sailing. His podcast is the most interesting and useful I have found with lots of detailed information and clear descriptions. Thanks Franz!
-
AlmasilvanaGreat sailing knowledge resourceIf you can overlook the author’s rants against the EU, this is a great resource for sailing aficionados of any levels, especially if you are centered on the Mediterranean, like I am. I just started sailing classes in view of getting my ASA certification and this podcast has been very helpful.

craigs commentsVery informative sailing podcastFranz does a great job with having interviews with very informative guests that provide a wealth of information for anyone new to sailing (like myself) and I would suspect also for experienced sailors as well. Keep it going!
-
Sepharad1A great med sailing specific Podcast. As someone who has resettled to Portugal, specifically to achieve a goal of sailing the Med, Franz' podcast is pure gold. What an amazing source of pinpoint information. Franz also talks with folks from all walks of the cruising world, which rounds out the site nicely. As a future boat buyer, I would love to hear more about what exactly is necessary in a Med cruiser. Does it need to be "blue water"? What used vessels to consider? Minimums for safe cruising in all 4 seasons?

Bela-manThanks for "rewind" of Dreamer to SailorFranz. Thanks so much for the rewind of "From Dreamer to Sailor" I recall hearing it the first time you published it and I was inspired. I never think of relistening to podcast, so the rewind was great. Turns out we are the same age and have both turned dreams into sailing adventures. Thanks so much for the many years of great sailing stories. Bela

SarahPayne100Great podcastJust got in to this podcast, love the laid back flow. Franz is an easy guy to listen to. Started listening to it because of a couple episodes (in the 130’s) about a couple of guys who chartered in Greece for six weeks without a lot of experience. We are planning to do this in a couple months and found these episodes both enjoyable and informative. Give Franz a listen!
-
M RauInvaluable for New SailorsI have been listening to Franz for some time now, and find his artful descriptions of his (and other's) adventures so postive and refreshing. His ASA prep courses were invaluable to my wife and I as we prepared for our pratical and book exams. Thank you for the refreshing sailing podcast Franz!
-
Crest25'Easy to listen to and lots of good sailing tips and stories.Have been listening to Franz for over two year now. I have also purchased his ASA 101 and 103 learn to sail lessons. His storires are good and his interviews are informative. Keep it up Franz.
-
VerticalwisdomMed PodcastsExcellent as if we were sitting down and having a chat about his recent sails. We live in Park City and hope we can meet up.

justsaygeorgiaA+As a beginner sailor I am absorbing as much information as I can. Podcasts like this one are very helpful for me. I like the mix interviewing guests or Hans recounting his own experiences. Hans is a skilled interviewer, he knows when to listen and has good questions to ask. I want to add my vote of approval for the construction, maintenance, and repair related episodes. I also appreciate learning sailing techniques, like the double anchor method.
-
Tom LockerGood Podcast, but...I love listening to this podcast and Franz has a great voice and good delivery. I do wish he would label the episodes better. Every one has the same file name, authors name, title name and album name. This makes it really hard to tell what your going to be listening to before you start. I often find that I will start an episode I've already listened to and I suspec that I've accedntally deleted ones since I can't tell them abart in a file manager of on my mp3 device.
-
Bradh44Always informative and entertainingI have listened to Franz's podcast from the beginning. I have to say it is excellent for sailors and aspiring sailors at all levels. I appreciate his mix of story telling, technical information (I particularly liked the series on GRP) and personal anecdotes. Keep up the good work Franz! I'll look you up next time in Salt Lake. -Brad, preparing to cruise on a KP46.

sail away….Great Sailing podcastI have been listening to Franz’s podcasts for several years. They are great. Franz has an easy going, yet inquisitive style that leads to informative interviews from those that have been out there doing it. Regardless of your (and the guests) sailing experience, there is always something new to learn about sailing and the people and places visited. While I enjoy Sailing in the Mediterranean, it is good that he has now gone beyond. Thanks Franz!
-
NancyRCGreat ListeningReally enjoyed the recent podcasts with Rory McDougal. Amazing what a memory he has about the ports of calls worldwide he has dropped his anchor. Nice to see Franz going "beyond" in recent interviews although I like the Med locations since it's my backyard. Great work Franz and thanks for your enjoyable podcasts.
-
MatcheteGreat Topics and VoiceGreat Sailing podcast that I listen to at work. I'm a small trailer power boater, but dream about coastal cruising someday.
-
Andrew s/v GejaGreat info about cruising and owning a sailboatFast forward through the annoying, metal-clanging intro and you'll find a wealth of great info about cruising. Great topics from boat equipment and repair, exotic locations, tales of others' adventures, and much more. Not just about The Med, although having my own boat in The Med is why I started listening.
-
Dreaming of sailing awayExperience the Mediterranean!Franz brings his many years of sailing experience to bear. Excellent content with interviews and his vast experience in the Med make this podcast one not to miss. Franz has the heart of a teacher and shares his experiences with his unique personality. I don't miss a podcast!
-
trwolfe68Tim WolfeExcellent, entertaining podcast. I've listened to most of them, but getting ready to sell out and become a live aboard so I'm going to listen again with a pen and paper. Thanks Franz!
-
rb1685Great PodcastI really like Franz's narrative and interviewing style, and hearing about the Med is interesting contrast to the rest of the Tropics sailing topics. I really enjoyed the interview with Brion Toss, one of my favorite figures in the sailing world. Only thing I DON'T like is the slamming of the gate in the introductory sound byte. I listen to podcasts exclusively on my headphones, and that sound shatters my eardrums every time.

EjrideoutFranz is the real deal!I’ve been sailing my whole life on the California coast, and I’ve always dreamed of doing a charter in the Med or in the Caribbean. This podcast has done more to inspire me and to inform me than any other source. Franz has tons of practical experience, which he relates clearly and in a very well organized format. His guests are always hugely entertaining and the experiences they share are fascinating and, at times, mind-boggling. Franz knows exactly what questions to ask his guests to bring out the most critical information, the kind of things that can make or break a decision about gear, a choice of direction, or an entire voyage. Thanks, Franz! Keep it up!
-
A cd..xxInteresting and InformativeGreat program about sailing and issues owning a sailboat.
-
freddiemdVery grateful to FranzI have been listening to this podcast for the last month as my lifelong sailing dream is finally coming true. Franz is a natural interviewer who gives his subjects ample time to tell their story. Has a fluid, fluent English and a tone and rhythm that makes him possibly the most listenable caster out there. The subjects are fascinating and I find myself taking notes on what else to read. Keep up the excellent work. 25 episodes down, 69 to go.
-

CptBobAdventuresVery InformativeFranz does a great job of providing great content to aspiring sailors often trapped by weather and/or life. Realizing that these take time and effort to put together, just wanted to pass along that it is really appreciated.

Halyard1964Great fun!The Sailing in the Mediterranean podcast is chock full of interesting stories and useful information for anyone interested in sailing and cruising. Franz does a fantastic job in bringing interesting people into your ears and getting them to talk about sailing adventures, tips and techniques, maintaining and restoring, provisioning, and much, much more. He also has a deep store of knowledge from years spent sailing in the Mediterranean and shares his own adventures in exotic locations. Over the past year I've listened to every Podcast Franz has put out and I can't say there was one that I didn't enjoy. They are perfect taking you away from the daily commute or the dreaded house and yard work.
-
MChepGreat podcast about sailing and marine industryFranz produces an excellent podcast about sailing in the Med and sailing in general. Early episodes focus on his journey as he built his boat and took it from US across the Atlantic. Franz goes into great detail about places that he stopped as he traversed the Med, providing anecdotal accounts of his experience. Later episodes tend to be more interview style with other sailors and marine industry professionals. It's great to see a good mix of the interview and personal first hand information. The production quality is generally great, aside from a few episodes that were done in the car or while walking. Also the introductions tend to be stretched out and cover other topics from various personal projects that don't always involve sailing. I find them refreshing and interesting. Franz really connects to his audience and is very personable. If you don't like them just fast forward))) Great job Franz. Keep them coming!
-
ChicagoRJAlways InterestingThis podcast always delivers interesting people and places. Franz is a good interviewer. Someday I hope to Sail in some of the places discussed. In the meantime I have learned a lot that I can apply on my own boat.
-
LiandriGreat for aspiring world sailorAs an aspiring live-aboard and world cruiser, Franz and his podcast guests are a great resource for cruising practices, gear, and destinations in the Med. Franz knows his personal preferences, but he isn’t dogmatic and provides support for his perspectives. Podcasts are released regularly and audio is great. I listen to this right alongside 59 North and The Sailing Podcast.
-

aburioeAwesome Sailing podcastI've been listening to this podcast for a couple of months now and I definitely recommend it to anybody who is interested in sailing. The show provides a wide assortment of perspectives from various people in all stages of living the dream of cruising the Mediterranean, whether it's strictly sailing talk, or geographical discussions, or advice about the realities of actually owning, storing, and maintaining your own boat. And the show's opening and closing lines are just about perfect for the subject matter!

B. ReeseInformative and EntertainingI have had the opportunity to sail with Franz on a number of occasions. This podcast is an honest reflection of his experience as a sailor presented in an informative and entertaining way. If you are looking for great first hand stories, information and experiences from an experienced sailor, this is one of the better podcasts out there.
-
NelsonPidgeonEnjoy the PodcastThe Med is not necessarily my first choice in sailing locations but I love to listen to sailing stories and have learned a lot from this podcast. Now with a variety of sailing subjects including information about taking the ASA exams, it has gotten even better. Keep putting them out Frans and I'll keep listening.

droidsnspaceExcellent podcastInformative and inspiring with an easy going style. Franz seems to be one of those people who loves to share stories and is very generous with his sailing knowledge. I have listened to about 8 episodes and I’m hooked. His intro to the podcast is the best. I never skip over it.
